This is a car I am doing for a guy here in Nashville. Now I have messed with my fair share of LSx variants but I know some of you guys are just chock full of all sorts of random LSx info. One weird thing with this engine is that the way the throttle lever is positioned on the throttle body, it wants the cable to come up from below and along the front of the motor. This engine came from an 02 Escalade. Has anyone used this throttle body before? Before I weld an elbow to it, I would like to hear from you guys. Mainly, what cable did you use, or do I need to fab something to make a universal cable work? Here are some pics of the build so far.

Well the customer supplied a harness and computer so I got that covered. Is the LQ9 normally drive by wire? I wonder what this throttle body is from?

nice setup. i did not know the truck headers would fit an a body facing down. did you have to do any mods to make that happen?

That throttle body is from a gen 1 vortec motor, not a gen III which is why the throttle lever is pointing the wrong direction and there is no lip to clamp the intake tube to. They used threaded extensions on the three bolts that the intake piping bolted to.

I've got an 02 escalade LQ9, it's DBW. I thought they all were. Is there an IAC on your setup? If not, wrong TB.

Ok thanks. That is helpful. I have a camaro throttle body that has the lever in the right orientation. I may just use that instead.


Thanks Yeah I replaced the steering rag joint with a low profile flaming river unit and cut off the flanges as you can see. I welded a bend with a Vband to the DS and just the Vband to the PS. They fit nicely. The car also does not have power steering so that helped a little in fitting the DS pipe under the PS bracket.

I don't have any more pics. I think he might have took some of the fuel system. I should have the car back on the lift in the next few days so I will get some more pics.

Yeah I did. He also supplied dual walbros and a nice harness for them.

Carefull. Stock F body T bodies are smaller than LQ4/LQ9 T bodies. One is 68mm? and the other is 70mm. I can't remeber the exact diamentions.

This throttle body I have is 75 mm. Hmm... I wonder what it is from? I thought it was a camaro but I am not sure. Anyways he is planning on using a different manifold and throttle body, later on with his built engine so this will work for now.

I thought LQ9's weren't ideal for turbo's because of the higher compression?? Let me if this is not the case, as I'm building an LQ9 for my 72 Nova right now. It's not too late to add some boost

Yeah well the plan is low boost for now until he builds the motor, then turn it up

My mistake. The F body ones are 75mm and the LQ4/LQ9 throttle bodies are 80mm. This is for the cable driven units. I just found the info while looking for something else.

LQ9's are 10:1 factory as opposed to 9:1 for the LQ4's. But, the LQ9's have stronger rods. You can still turbo it but you have to tune and watch for knock.
