Want some opinions on wrapping my hotside with some of the new DEI stuff. I have heard it might be a bad idea with coated mild steel due to corrosion. Any truth to this? Seems like everyone is using the stuff these days and I dont see my steeing rack lasting more than a day without it.

May try searching on this topic a bit first.

My advice, if it is a DIY kit, get some BBQ paint, paint it, then wrap with DEI, and use the silicone spray to lock in the color/fibers. Reapply the spray every 3-5k miles as color fades. If you bump the wrap, it will fall apart after 10k miles if you dont keep it sealed. That has been my experience with it.

The wrap does work great for keeping the heat in. Do not coat the kit then use the wrap, I have no personal experience, but it seems that others have killed the coating by using the wrap with it.

The coating will flake off. Then that will allow corrosion if it gets wet. Since we are in Phoenix, just don't drive it in the rain.

I also wrapped my old TTI kit that was coated, no problems, didnt flake or anything.
the only thing i have heard is wrapping uncoated mild steel that it will rust, though it will rust uncoated too.

I hardly ever drive it LOL. Its a 96 with 46K original miles. It has not seen rain for about 8 years and I will never drive it in anything but sunny weather if I can help it. All of the pipes have a very high quality jet hot like black coating. The titanium wrap was the product I was looking into. Sounds like it wont be an issue.
