For those who ditch the PCV system completely and/or do not want to run a catch can goes to these types of breathers. Metco seems to be the one to get for LS1's.

We sell the Metco ones and they work great. Just putt off the oil cap and screw the metco breather in

^^^ relieves crankcase pressure, I am mostly doing it cause crankcase pressure doesnt sound good (I know makes me sound pretty noob like) and I am dressing up my engine bay.

As for the valve breather goes, do I have to modify the PCV system to benefit from one of these? It just seems like a cheap option to relieve some stress on my engine, Im not getting a bitch can or modifying anything else in my engine.

I've used Metco breathers for 10 years. I recommend them on every engine I work on. Definitely a worth while mod, and look pretty too.

Do I have to modify anything to benefit from them? I.e. catch can and/or PCV system? Or is it just plug and play benefits?

You don't have to modify anything. Just remove your oil filler cap and screw in the Metco breather. As said above, it helps to relieve crank case pressure. The idea is to reduce oil consumption.

So.... they reduce oil consumption? Has it been proved? I'm interested in this.

think of it this way...stock PCV routes to the TB (throttle body). enough said

so, you use this if you DO NOT want to run a catch can?
can you use it in addition to a catch can setup?

unless you totally plug off the PCV you'll have to tune the car with the breather.

otherwise you'll be pulling in unmetered (hasn't passed the maf) air into the engine.

Thats b/c normally when you use breathers you delete the PCV system completely.

The breathers dont have one way valves in them, so they will allow vaccum & realease crank case pressure both.

If the engine didnt suck in some air there wouldnt be a PCV hose for fresh air from the throttle body to the front of the passanger valve cover.

damian...maybe i'm misunderstanding how you are suggesting setting up the breather.

but my understanding is that if you just put a breather on the oil fill tube, and keep the rest of the PCV system in place...there will be unchecked air entering the engine.

i mean the PCV system pulls air from the TB (metered air) into the crankcase, through the PCV valve and then into the intake manifold.

putting a breather on the oil fill cap would be the same as having a hole in the PCV line. when i had a hole in mine, my LTFT were maxing out at +25% fuel and tripping an SES.

maybe an explaination of why you say i'm wrong rather than just saying "no"
