How do you remove the base on the fixed antennas from the fourth gen f bodies?

pull the spare tire cover and the mast is held on by a hex bolt, then wiggle the mast and grommet out of the hole and snake the mast upwards. really simple

Thanks for the reply but I need a little more info. To me it looks alot more complicated than stated. I did remove a fixed antenna from a car in the junkyard but I hacked up the quarter just to get it. It appears that the plastic top base is riveted to the metal. Can someone post pics maybe?

its not riveted at all. the base is just a rubber grommet pressed into the hole in the quarter. your making it more difficult than it has to be.

did you remove the spare tire cover and spare tire?

if so, its pretty obvious how simple it is to remove when looking in the spare tire area

.....also your thread title states fixed antenna removal but your first post says how do you remove the base on fixed antennas

so are you asking how to remove the whole antenna assemble from the car or is the antenna removed and trying to dismemeber the antenna?

be more specific to match your thread title with your first post

What he said^ or if it seems to be stuck unscrew the actual antenna and pull the base out the bottom. There is I think 1 screw that attaches it to the inside of the frame. It is a 10mm.

Sorry, I realize that my question is vague. It is actually two parts. First how do you remove the antenna base from the car not the antenna itself? Second, how do you seperate the plastic part of the base from the metal?

Thanks for the pics. What you have is completely different from what I have. I removed one from an lt1 and it does not look at all like that. Maybe, I can post some pics tomorrow. The ls1 bases look a 1000 times easier to remove. Thanks again nemss1.
