Default Will aluminized steel work?

Will aluminized steel work for turbo headers. I think its 16 gauge thick.

aluminized steel is just regular mild steel coated to prevent rust, nothing special about it.

Yes it is a good choice if your no going to coating them.
You can coat them but it holds up realy well.
It will get a dark gray look to it after a while.
They are not the prettyiest.

it will work fine, but it will rust out eventually, like any other ferrous metal

He's right, but it's a bargain compared to coatings or stainless.
I owned 2 muffler shops for about 20yrs and have bent and installed
thousands of feet of this stuff.

On a daily driver the pipe behind the converter would last about 5 years.
The pipes in front of the converter would last the life of the car.
This is in south MS, no salt on the roads here.
It takes the heat realy well to.
Pipes on motor homes and duallys with big block would get VERY hot,
to the point that the manifolds turn a gray/blue and the cast seperate
and leek out the side.

The pipes would hold up to that and the aluminized coating would
be untouched!

i dont have them for headers (truck manifolds) but all my other piping is aluminized and no rust so far.

I hear that.

Likewise, I've used aluminized steel tubing for pretty much everything on my exhaust except for headers on a bunch of differnet vehicles...seems to hold up really well.

16ga (.065" wall) aluminized steel will work fine; it is a good product for budget conscious builds. You will need to grind off the aluminized coating where you weld it. You can use aerosol cold spray galvanized coating (available at most auto/truck/trailer parts retailers) to protect the welded areas.

Am I reading this right? Are you asking about building turbo headers with it from the head flange to collector? Or are you asking about going from turbo to cast manifolds?

Well with headers how hot do they get and what's the melt point of aluminum
?
I think it might be a little to hot for them without looking up the actual #'s

He's not talking about using aluminum tubing, he's wanting to use Steel exhaust tubing that has an aluminum based anti corrosion coating on it. Its what exhaust shops use these days to last longer then the old plain steel tube.

yes i know, but at the high temps the headers see, the aluminum coating might melt. Aluminum melts at 1220°F, steel is 2600 - 2800°F
so if you headers heat up past 1220°F say hello to rust.
FYI i think most hi temp coating is suppose to be around 1300-2450°F
