Get the AAM 3.73s. They are a different "cut" from the usual aftermarket gears, forgiving set up and quiet as stock - you won't be disappointed.

No gears should WINE when set up correctly. Why would THEY???????????????? Been doing them for 40+ years. They are not geliberately designed to WINE.

You're absolutely right, but some of the after markets tend to be noisier - especially as the ratio goes up, and the 10 bolt does not hold the settings well under load so even if set correctly - a little movement makes them whine. The AAMs are more forgiving on set up and in use.

Well lets start over. All ring and pinion sets are checked for contact in the factory on Gleason machines. That is why you get a speck sheet with the gears and that is the contact ares that should be achieved. I really dont understand what you mean by MOVEMENT. The ring gear will have a tendency to push out from torque loads and increase the back lash under heavy load but all final drives do that. I am pushing well over 500 HP to my 4.11 10 BOLT for 3 years now with no problem. When setting up gears they should not make noize. If they do something is not set correctly. I have build litterly hundreds of final drives in my life and i must say they dont WINE. When you say as the ratio goes up they wine what ratios are you talking about? I run a 5.13 HIGH IMPACT gearset on one of my street cars and its pritty quiet. If you are interested in final drive specks and procedures go on randys website and check it out. Believe me 3.73 gears are not big at at ALL. No street gear set should WINE especially 3.73 units they are not that big of a gear. Hope this helps

I have AAM's and they wine a little bit. I had Motive's previously and they were a tad louder yet. I attribute the wine to my installer but with dumped TD's I can no longer hear it anyhow. From what I've seen I'd recommend AAM or GM.

Always break in gears EASY . They have to mate properly. There should be a speck sheet with them that will tell you how to break them in. I always suggest to my customers to take it easy for like 1500 miles. Once again gears should not wine. You can get all the WINE you need at the liquor STORE. Just a joke that we tell customers when we do a gear SWAP. They always ask if the new gears will wine. Peace Tom

TOTALLY correct and Richmond makes a dam good set of gears. I have installed several sets and they are top shelf QUALITY. If a gearset wines it's telling you something is WRONG. Peace Tom

That cant be a good sign. I have a TC that came from the factory with 3.73 gears and my VETTE came with 4.11 and they are as QUIET as a church mouse. Bottom line if they make noize they are not set up RIGHT. Gears were not designed on purpose to make noize. Years ago the gears were straight cut. Talk about NOIZE. Ever hear an old car going down the road. WOW talk about NOIZE. Modern gears should not make noize. If they do something is WRONG.
