Unhappy Do I need a rear end?

Guys, I just did some bolt-ons to my car, MS3 cam, 5.3L Heads, Pulley, Fast 90/90 and a bunch of little stuff. I'm putting around 430hp to the wheels, I still have my 3.42s in my gm 10 bolt, but am I setting myself up for a busted rear end? I don't have that kinda money for one. What do you guys think?

Are you planning on puttin in the 4.10's in your sig??

And short anwser is yes, you are setting yourself up to break the puny 10-bolt especially in a 6-speed. I broke mine on stock HP.

Well, I bought the 4.10s and a re-build kit with bearings and Cover, but I have for the time being, put it aside. I've heard of people losing their gears in a stock car with stock power, but I see sooo many people pushing far more power than me and a stock rearend.

It depends on how you drive. If you dump the clutch like a tard then you're gonna break...prolly on the street.

If you got $200 put some 315 sumis on there. You won't break because of traction issues. lol.

exactly it depends on how you drive. power shifting and dumping the clutch will blow it for sure, mine has taken some abuse with 400 horses but none of the above, just harder than normal driving and it's lasted thousands of miles. You have the cover already so put it on and it will help some, even some bearing cap studs in replace of the bolts. While you're in there you should check the bearings also, mine had pits in them when I pulled them a few months ago. but don't put much more money into it right now, save for the big dogs.

edit: mine also hasn't seen a track since 2003 when it was bone stock. i'm just too nervous to go again right now lol

well, I'm putting down about 450rwhp, and I'm only driving it on the street until I get my 9". But do you or anyone think I should put my 4.10 and re-build kit for now or just return it for the $420.00 back and put it towards a 9"?

I would return it and use the money for a 9" those 4.10's will kill gas mileage on the street and it's not really worth it if you won't use 'em on the track. You'll be happier saving instead of doing all that work now for a small gain for the street.

Good to go, I was thinking the same thing. So you think if I take it easy on the street, I'll be ok?

if you're afraid to get on it, then why drive it? the 7.5 can be built, but it's just a matter of time. if you are considering any track time, get a 9" and a driveshaft and then pour the coals to it and no worries!

If it helps ease your mind at all, I have beat on my 10 bolt a decent amount on the street. I have sprayed it numerous times from 2nd gear rolls on Nittos and it's held. But, I took it to the track last nov and TRIED to spray it ONCE, and blew the posi to hell on the 1-2 shift after babying it off the line.

The street is MUCH more forgiving man! Just don't dump it and don't do many 1-2 shifts with a half way hooking tire on a good road, and she should hold together a decent amount of time. Mine has...
