Anyone know of a 5th gen doing a wheelstand yet?

Don't count on seeing too many of those, if any. These new cars are more "squat and zoom" than "buck and ride". Gutted race versions might be a different story though.

If they are anything like the IRS Goats, you may not get much of a wheel stand out of one without some crazy suspension work. There are 9 second GTO's that don't pull the wheels.

Would be pretty impressive to see though...

With how far the front wheels are set forward even with a live axle it might be hard to do. I agree, it would be awesome to see.

We are building a body in white that if it is anything like our current shop car, I'm sure it will hit the bumper a time or two! :D

I see it as if it retains a IRS, you will not see a wheel stand. BUT put a solid axle in there, the possibilities are endless.

why is that? it is because of the geometry of when the axel/springs compress?

That and with all IRS, there is flex, and its not a hard line from wheel to wheel like soild rears.

There is a Viper out there that had or still has the IRS record and I have seen that launch it is nasty, but nothing like a "on the bumper" wheel stand. Each side of the IRS will be at different angles, unless someone is welding rods from the body to the hubs to essentially make it inmobile, I see no other way. I am no IRS expert but that is what I see.

Here is an example....

I heard they have a tricky suspension. 4th gens are quite simple and have a great platform. well see how well the new one works besides it being so much heavier

When talking about platforms, as for Solid Rear cars were G Body Monte Carlos, Regals, and to a far lesser extent Grand Prix's in the 80's They had a almost 4-link type suspension which makes them very competitve w/o tons of work.
