Default Tinted Tails not pass State Inspection?

So I went get my camaro inspected at a jiffy lube in Pasadena, TX and they told me it will not pass because of the tinted tails. They're not even really dark (light smoke). Has anybody had problems passing inspection beause of tninted tails? Does anybody know of a friendlier station in the Pasadena area?

Thanks.

Tails have to be reflective, when you tint them it takes the reflectivity away, why some people put the covers on, since they can be taken off....I have two sets of tail lights for my truck, one tinted pair, and one stock pair..

No problems with mine the last two years. They have inspected mine since new, that might help. They are so busy talking about the car, they don't look at anything, just hook up the computer and test the gas cap. One of these days my luck will run out.

THIS. Just borrow a pair and take them off when you are done. Takes all of 10 minutes to swap out.

my dad is a cop and say's they are not illegal, as long as they reflect light and you are able to see from 50ft away... like i used to have them on my truck and if you shined light on them they reflected and you could easily see them from 200ft away... but some state inspectors are dicks and cops also and read that law the wrong way... that is just my interpretation...

asfar as the inspection goes if the reflective properties of the taillight is missing or blocked the car will fail inspection!! usually when one came in for an inspection in my shop i would just tell them to get it fixed and not charge them for the inspection!!

Just because some of you had them pass, that doesn't make them legal. It just means your inspector didn't care, or didn't know the laws. Like the guy said above, the reflectors still need to function properly and be bright when lights are shined on them. Some inspectors have been told just to avoid any painted lights, period.

Not arguing that fact at all. Just saying if he want's to know where they will get passed....

I know they are illegal, just like my tint, and other things, speeding, running yellow lights, etc... It's a accessory I'll choose to take the chance with. My tint is light so i guess "technically" the reflective part is still there.

I don't know many people (personally) that have camaros, so I can't say I have someone I can borrow a pair from. I will try another inspection station.

Although you may find some places to over look it, its still technically illegal. The rules state that they have to reflect light visibly from a distant of 200ft or more. Even if they do alot of inspectors would rather just fail them to not take the chance. God forbid you get a new sticker and then gut pulled over the second you leave thats a fine on the inspector and station. Kinda ghey but sticks ons are your friend

i'd really like to see the laws on the tail lights. I mean we have heard 3 different versions here. again doesn't change how I feel, but if mine are legal according to the law I'm printing it out and leaving it in my car
