Default Gas pump shutting off while filling up?

I know this problem has been addressed before but I havent been able to find it so I thought id start a new thread. Basically, my car sat for a year an last night I went to put gas in it and had a hard time filling it up, once it got to about 10 gallons the pump kept shutting off like it was full but it wasn't. I think it might be something with my EVAP/charcoal canister? but I dont know much about it, what do you guys think?

Some gas pumps have some sort of new-fangled nozzle or whatever that helps to deal with vapors or something, so it may not even be your car. Your problem happens to me every once in a while also. What I do is pull the rubber part that covers the nozzle back as far as I can, and then insert the nozzle into the filler tube. Try that...

Don't ram the nozzle all the way down the filler neck. Back it out a couple of inches when filling and listen carefully. When you hear the gurgling getting closer stop the pump manually to avoid a stinkin' mess.

my camaro doesn't have this problem but my other car I DD does. and like you said it happens more at shell stations than it does at others. I'm really not sure how to fix it but I do think it has something to do with the actual pump itself and not your car. My buddies car also does the same thing. I would try and find a station that works the best and stick with that one

I've had this issue at Texaco as well.
Start pumping, take a step back and it stops. Start again, take a step back and it stops. Move nozzle back a little, start it again and it's fine till it's full.

I'll try another station and see what happens, just wasn't sure as my car did sit for a long time an this was the first time I have filled it up.

The newer pump nozzles are a lot more sensitive than the older ones. The slightest vapor leak will trip them. Just pump your gas slower.
