First start up, will it start with my tune?
I figured i'd ask this before i tried anything. I think it'll be ok, but i'm not sure...
I'm about to start my car up for the first time in two years. It now has a 454 LSX, it used to be a HCI 346 and that's what the tune is for. It's a 2001 with the original PCM, M6 car.
Old setup:
Stock bottom end
PRC 5.3 heads
231/237 .589/.595 112
ported FAST 90mm
factory MAF with SLP lid
42# injectors
New setup:
LSX block with forged internals, ~11.4:1 SCR
258/266 .647/.647 112 (i think, if i remember right)
Mamo-ported FAST 92mm
TEA TFS 245's
60# injectors
NO MAF, going SD with 104mm lid
2" Kooks headers
My question is will it start and will it be safe to start and/or drive? i'm kind of a tuning noob, but want to get into it. Although it isn't wired yet, i'm putting in a LC-1 and guage to monitor AFR, what's a safe range i should watch for?
Thanks guys

Why would you waste that much money and time and not spend for a base tune? just going from 42-60's i know the injectors need to have the proper data filled in. Frost has a great turn around time and gives great service.
Do you have HPT or EFI live? Frost does email tuning via HPT

I went from heads cam stock injectors 93 octane to heads cam turbo with 60# injectors on e85. The car fired right up and ran fine, I just wouldn't recommend driving it very much, if there is too much fuel it can wash the oil from the cylinder walls, and too lean will get hot, and spark knock could occure as well.

that's why the wideband is going in, if it isn't in a safe zone, i won't touch it.
I don't plan on starting it up and taking off, i just want it to run. if it's remotely close to being ok, i'm going to put a few easy break in miles on it and then trailer it to a dyno for tuning.
Like i said, i'm not a tuner, but my reasoning is this: i went from stock displacement with 42# injectors and more air/fuel moving in and out than stock...to a large displacement motor with larger injectors and even more air/fuel moving. The computer doesn't really know anything is different, so it's going to send the same signal to the injectors which would flood out the 346, but since it's a bigger motor, it can use the fuel...BUT i'm no expert and wanted to post my situation so an expert could chime in...

I know with the injector swap you'll be needing a tune to safely start it. Do what I did, send your PCM to the tuner that is going to do your car and get a base map set for either 42# or 60#ers. Once you get the PCM back, then start it. Like what was said above, why even think about hurting your new build in any shape or form. Even at idle you could start washing your cylinder walls. If you where convinced in doing it before your tuned or atleast have a base map, leave the 42#ers in it and start it worse case scenario though. That is the closest you will get to your proper A/F ratio which most likely will be a bit lean from all the extra air you will be raking in. Nice setup by the way fella

i do not have any tuning software or access to anybody that i know of that does have it....like i said, the car will have a wideband in it, so i don't think starting it will hurt anything at all, but i won't drive it. i'll go ahead and work on a mail order tune...
I have no idea who i'm going to have tune it though

Wow that's what I call an extreme calibration for one-shot through the mail! It will ship out tomorrow AM.
Mail order tuning is NEVER a replacement for full tuning with a wideband for a setup such as this. It will definitely get you up and going, and assuming everything is mechanically sound and setup properly, let you drive without fear until you can get it somewhere for full tuning or get started on it yourself.
Thanks for all of the nice words too Bill!
