if you hooked it up and used it right, go ahead and do it. make sure you try different places, see what looks allright. try to not let it look like a ricer

Your car already has a tach, just get a Harlens Shiftlight. Do you need to know precisely when you pass 4000 RPMs or something? It looks like ***.

I have a harlan and shift on the light. It's set for 6K and it never bangs off the limiter (6.2K). Excellent piece of equip for cheap.

i dont like them that much, kinda rice but at least its functional and helpful in this case. i prefer them on the left side, that way the inspection/license stickers kinda cover it up.

Stock tachs are definately SLOOOOOOOWWWWW!

It probably wouldn't be an appearance mod I would choose. But from a functional standpoint...they work well.

Mine is a playback tach, no need for lugging laptop, and atap cable down the track to check my shift reaction, and rpm extension on the shift. Also can adjust shift light setting for each individual shift. I love it! Although the bummer is right after I bought mine they came out with a new version that has an indiglo type of guage face... I like it better than the style I have.

to each his own.

Nope. Rice (unless for some odd reason you actually need a 5" tach, like you are going blind or something and MUST know exact engine rpms for something). Get a shiftlight, hide it in an A/C vent, and be done with it.

Its a legitament mod. These tachs are very slow and inconsistant. I have hit the rev limiter when the tach only showed 5600rpms. Plus its confusing with the redline starting at 5800 and with the needle going past straight up.

Lately, Ive been shifting off the speedometer. Its more accurate.

I put mine in only because I already had it when I bought the car. I don't really need it for my A4. But, I get many looks and many comments about it. It does look pretty cool. Rice, umm, no. That's a pretty juvenile thing to say. It is way faster than the stocker. It is supposed to get recalibrated by AutoMeter for LS1's because the needle shakes badly under 1000 rpm. I bolted mine on the lower part of the a pillar cover. Fits perfect in there. Going to get rid of it when I get a 2 gauge pod.

I agree that it is a legitimate mod, but only if you need it. I saw way too many lame imports with monster tachs on my last trip into Chicago. The perception of the aftermarket tach has become twisted into a boy racer image.

Personally, I just couldn't justify it unless I were regularly racing, which I'm not. I'm opting for a shift light in the A/C vent for those couple track appearances that I make.

To each their own, if you need it, go for it.

I think folks are too quick with the rice comment.

I have had tachs in like five cars.

My 98 Formula A4 has one.

I have had shift point problems in the past and put the tach in a few years ago so I could watch it shift.

I got it for information not to impress anyone.

I have a 7" tach on my car. This way when the cops are chasing me they can see what RPM I'm shifting at.

Ok actually a real tach is a good idea. The stockers are crap.

What I always laugh at is the A/F LED light that people put on. That's got to be the most annoying things I've ever seen. Who has one of those?

John......

ROTLMAO!!!

The A/F ratio gauge is intertaining but it's pretty darn useless.

I like the light show it produces, but mine only reads now after I have my foot to the floor for like 5 seconds...
