Sounds like you're pulling IGN power from the starter solenoid wire

Make sure you have the correct power to the required PCM terminal.. you need direct 12+v to the PCM and also IGN 12+ in the run only. Check you wiring diagram for the correct type of power.

Not sure how the early 4th gens are wire at the start, but yes.. if you get power from the starter solenoid's smaller term's.. it will cut off power as you release the key from start to run.

Does it almost start then die, or run for like one second then die? Getting a security light on dash?

From what I get by what he said it starts when the Key is in the start position, but when you let it come back to the run position it dies.

correct what merv said. does any of the wires from the two plugs on the wheel well need to be attached anywhere if the harness is a standalone system.

Well from what it sounds like the main Ignition Wire(s) is(are) connected to the one with the Starter..there should be only one wire coming out of the Ign Switch to the Starter, like 2 or 3 on the spot where the Key is in Run.

That or the switch is like really fubar..lol

What car is this?

I repaired an early 90's Honda Accord that exhibited this exact symptom.

I diagnosed it as a bad ignition switch, which was the problem.

alright here is another one. checked fuel pressure good. checked each injector pulse and sprays a good stream of fuel, with a kent moore injector testor. if i bump the starter over a couple of times with out trying to start the engine, it will fire and run for about 4 seconds. then die, got it to run about 3 times like this before i quite for the evening. what should i look for?

Hmmm. the symptoms definately point to bad fuel pump or clogged filter. but you say you have good pressure. what kind of pressure readings are you getting? all in all i'd probably have to say +1 on ignition switch
