Default 4:10s vs 4:30s? What tire size?

Im searchin for a new rear end..Mines about to go. Iv got 4:10s now..in a 6 speed car its not too bad to drive.

I dont do a lot of racing but when I do..I want it to at least keep up.

I think Im ganna go with a Fabed 9in I just dont know what gear and tire size to go with for racing. For track use I dont understand a taller tire vs a smaller tire.. I just want it to hook up ya know!

Pretty Basic Cam only car (MS4)..

Would I be better with a 4:30 or 4:10s?..not much of a difference really..

I would go with a 28" ET Drag and 4.56's if it was my car. But it doesn't sound like you do as much racing as I do. My car would not hook on a radial with the six speed(nor do many others) and that's why I recommend the slicks.

I got a cammed m6 ws6 with 4.10's and Mickey ET drag radials. Its still great to drive around town, still get about 28mpg highway, and the few times that i do race they hook up like a ****. Slicks aren't legal, and even tho they'll hook for sure, it's not fun to roll around town in with 15 psi in the back because it feels like you're driving on flat tires and you could roll the tire right off the rim

If you are looking for a tire that you can run all the time then a slick is not for you. Stick with the radial tire if you need something that you can drive on.

4:30's and roll around on a 28" tall tire, be it a Biasply or DR. but a Bias Ply would be more optimal and you need to leave off the limiter.

I run 4.33's and 28x12.50 et streets at the track (325/50/15 dr's on street) and I have enough gear for 138mph through the traps in 4th gear before I'm on the limiter (7300rpm). Tire height & gearing depends on how much power you make (projected mph) and how high you spin the motor. I had 4.56's before the 4.33's and they are an absolute riot on the street with 26" tires () and still cruise 70mph at 2000rpm in 6th gear.

EDIT: Just saw your post, with your shift point and 4.30's you'd have enough gear for 130mph in the 1/4 with 28" tires, about 120mph with 26" tires.

I have a 6 speed w/ 4.10s. With M/T drag radials (255/50R-16, 26.1" diameter ) I hit a 7,000 rev limiter at 129 mph. I have gone to 28" m/t tires.

Was that in 4th gear and crossing the line?

I have a cammed SS with 4.30s and 28" tall ET Drags. I launch the car at 6700, shift at 6700, and go thru the traps@121mph in 4th gear no problem. I kinda wish I would have gone with 4.56s. Btw driving around town is fine and I still get 25mpg on the highway.

With that setup it will put you @ 124mph in 4th and 6800 rpm.
