Default HID alternative?

I was looking at getting HIDs for the ss but after a few friends had problems with the ballasts i was alittle weary. i decided to order a set of these.

http://www.autoanything.com/lights/6...0A2355249.aspx

there supposed to be almost as good as traditional HIDs but the only work that needs to be done is changing the bulb. Ill let you know how they look and possibly throw up some pics when they get here.

you can get PIAAs for much much less on ebay. I myself got two sets of H11s on there for about $35 or $40 per pair, something around that. don't pay retail for PIAAs

^^^What he said.

I also have PIAA bulbs, and quite frankly, I don't see how they're "ghey." They're a good alternative to all the BS you have to deal with when you have HIDs. Unless you buy a really high quality set of HIDs (read, expensive), you have at least a 50/50 chance of something going wrong. I know of several people who've got "budget" HIDs and had problems (right Buff?). For a fraction of what you'd spend on HIDs, you can improve over you stock lighting, not have an illegal modification, and not have to worry about future headaches.

You want to talk about "ghey?" Those $5 Nyoka (or whatever the hell they're called) you can get on Ebay that will fry your harnesses, those are "ghey."

Those look better than the ghetto bulbs my buddy put in, not sure of the brand. I thought he said they where PIAA, maybe not, but are a god awful purple. So I guess I will retrack my "ghey" statement for now.

I wish Sylvania would make the Silverstar line in H11... Dang it. You can, however, get similar bulbs made by Osram (same as Sylvania but in Europe) called NightBreakers in H11 on ebay for a decent price. Supposedly, from what I've read, they're good bulbs.

That bulb doesn't have any where the Near output of an hid Kit. As for the ballast flicking on and off it's because of the auto headlights or because of the day time running light a smiple relay harness would fix that. As for the piaa's I would be more worried about running them over an hid that may sometime flicker because that bulb will pull a hell of a lot more watts than the factory bulb Or even that hid's which can overload the wire and cause a car fire. And u spent $80 on them u just got owned. You can buy a hid kit for $75 and then the relay harness for about $25 so $100 and that's shipped to your door. If you can stop the order and go to this place and buy a kit from them www.hidonlinestore.com

The PIAAs are rated at 55w, just like the factory bulbs. They will not fry anything. I've been running mine for almost 3 years, without ANY problems.

For those of you that are unaware, PIAA is a very high quality manufacturer. They don't make crap. Yes, HIDs will give you a much better output, but unless you spend over $200-$300 for a high quality kit, they'll probably give you endless headaches too.

So, $35-$40: better than stock output and zero headaches

$100: much better than stock, but you better save a few bucks for some aspirin.

they make Silverstars in H11 now actually. I've seen them at my local Autozone. they're about as pricey than PIAAs on ebay though, like $20 per bulb

You are very wrong on the cost and reliability. I paid $75 for the HID kit that is in my wife’s car almost 3 yrs. ago and they still work to this day no issues. Like I said before if you use a relay harness instead of just the factory wiring there won't be any flickering issues. I will say that they do take a bit longer to install but if there brighter and you can see better than no issues. Also most bulbs such as the Silver Stars say right on the pack that the life of the bulb is decreased because of how much hotter it burns. I’m not trying to be a dick just pointing things out. That’s just my 2 cense.

Yep, I found that out searching ebay yesterday too... That's awesome. I wonder why no Ultras though?

www.ddmtuning.com has HID kits for $30 and about $15 for shipping per order. Almost any bulb type and temperature you want and they have a LIFETIME WARRANTY! Have had many of these sets and so do my friends, never had a problem!

I've got 6K HID's w/harness to keep from flickering and love them. I've had them almost 2 years now and had 1 bad ballast but the guys I got them from replaced it for free. I paid $110 for HID's, harness, and install. I'm very happy with them and probably will never go back. I did put a set of the Silver Stars in my girls civic and they are the biggest pieces of overpriced **** in the world. They are super bright but don't light up the road hardly at all, and YES I did aim the headlights.
