Default T56 on the bench

Is there any good way to check a T56 on the bench for overall soundness.

I'm looking at a rebuilt T56 but it is out of the car. Supposed to have less than 400 miles.

Short of disassembly any good tiips?

You can spin the input shaft and feel for roughness. If you know what you are feeling, you can usually feel if a gear has a broken tooth on it. Other indicators are excessive play in and out on the input shaft when pulling on it.

I just picked up a T56 today. I just made sure it would go into all gears and the input shaft spun smoothly in each. Didn't try pulling it in or out though. I was told it just pops out of 2nd so when I have it inspected we'll see if there's anything major wrong beyond that. For a 30k mile trans I think I got a good deal if that's all that's wrong.
