LS4 Performance - Questions about impala SS

Hey guys, i used to drive a 02wrx to work and I blew it up racing (and winning) a lt1 caprice. Now I need a daily driver and have grown to like the Impala SS 5.3. I drive about 100 miles a day 95% highway and sounds like that active fuel management is right up my alley. I have a few questions before I buy one hope you guys can help me out, Please don't flame me.

1. What is the best year to buy?

2. Do they all come with sunroofs and does anybody have any problems with them?

3. I know that my friend just bought a 07 Trailblazer SS and has the GM 100K mile transferrable warranty, what year did that start and if I buy it from a private seller will the warranty come with it?

the best years to get would be anything 2007+, as that was when they had the 100k powertrain warranty. if you can find a 2006 that's certified, then that will have the 100k warranty too I believe.

sunroofs were not standard. however, I have one and have not had any problems with it other than this little rattle that seems to come and go. however, be warned that it does not open all the way, and slides above the roof, rather than into it. it's a bit weird if you're not used to it, make sure you check it out on the one you're looking at and make sure you don't mind that.

As mentioned, the 07+ is the ones that have the 100k powertrain warranty. 06's seems to have the most issues, the 07+'s seem to have less tranny problems, but more have been popping up lately.

I've put 22k miles on my 08 SS since August 08 and it's been a solid car, but have had the steering gear replaced (which still makes noise), rear main seal replaced, replaced front brakes and rotors due to warpage at 28k miles, and ate up a set of tires in 14k miles (because I drive her like the red-headed stepchild she is).

I have an 07 ss and have 46,000ish miles on her and I've had no problems. Really I haven't. The only thing I replaced was the goodyear RS-A's. If you buy an Impy and it still has them, thats the first thing you should fix.

Mine a good "family car",and it gets a lot of complaments for apperance(its only stock but always clean)...But as far as a DD it fits my needs,and its my lil sleeper(Debadged the tramp)...A tune and headers ill be down with the modding or not,lol!!! Good luck with your choice

I bought my 06 impy on feb of 09 with 62k now have 75k on it ,only thing I have replaced was the power steering hose last month. Transmission and engine feel strong.

k thanx for the info, I'm still researching due to the fact that I'm getting married in a few months and all the money I have goes to the wedding but soon. I've changed my mind alot about what car to get cause right now I'm using a leased 09 impreza kinda lame no power flat 4 170 hp and torque and about 24-26mpg I drive about 80 normally. Ive thought about the new RS camaro v6, challenger v6, even the grand prix gxp but when reality settles in after I stop daydreaming the impy ss is always there and always for a decent price.

Did they all have leather interior?

Actually Im thinking the exact opposite direction Im about 80 percent through my first winter driving my GXP (winter beater decided to die on me) There completely horrid winter cars. yes there warm and comfy but no traction in summer = angry people honking at you as your traction control is on constantly!!! LOL. Ive had old people pass me giving me the finger :/

With that said i started looking at WRX's cause a decent tune and some better tires nets mid range 13's from what ive seen and AWD in winter is a big plus here.

Are you running the stock tires? I actually did some research on those Potenza's after seeing how bad they were last winter and found out that when they say summer tires they mean it. The tire compound starts freezing at 40 degrees F. I bought a set of Dunlop Graspics (225/55R17) and some random wheels and I have to say that my GXP is better now in the snow than my '77 F250 was with 28.5" bias-ply mud and snow tires.

I agree I would do a 2007+. Sunroof is not standard. I actually that and sat radio maybe the only options.

I just put a set of 255 50 18 Potenza RE760's on my GXP and they're great in wet weather or dry weather....I will never buy another set of RE050's totally over-rated IMO

you say about the below 40 degrees the compounds freeze but what damage does it do to the tires?
