watch out for pacesetter y pipes!!!
to all of you who are running a pacesetter y pipe on your f-body. has anyone taken the time to inspect their y pipe before instalation? i know this is a very common pipe used in the world of 98-02 f-bodies. i was looking over my brand new pacesetter y for any defects or dammage from shipping and i happend to look inside the pipe where it merges. the first thought that came to mind was WTF!!! at the merge you will notice that the passenger side pipe is welded to the driverside pipe. on the driver side pipe they cut a hole in it to make the merge. well the hole that was cut is only about a 2" diameter! can you say restrictive? so what i did was cut one pipe off @ the y to gain access and ground the overhang off with a die grinder then welded the pipe back together. now you can say it's an actual 3" 3" to a 3" y pipe not a 3" 2" to a 3" y pipe. so now that i have gone through this experience i thought i would share with all of you. maybe yours is ok, but maybe not! check it out, you may be able to free up some extra hp.

I had the Pacesetter y-pipe on my 02Z. I had to cut it all up and mod for floorpan clearance. I actually cut mine right at the merge and found the tiny hole they cut. I fixed that and used a 3.5" midpipe. In the end I should have fabricated my own Y-pipe.

Hmmm...have never heard this til now. I bought the car w/ the y-pipe already on so I never got a chance to look at it. Maybe I'll get a TSP later down the road. As of right now, I'm not too worried about it.
