just remove the retainer clip on the front of the knob and it slides off, swap on the Firebird knob. u dont have to re-install the retainer clip. i didnt because i couldnt get the holes on the shifter rod to line up and it was snug just fine

That is very dangerous IMO.

I lost my retainer clip and used a paperclip till i got a new one, the shifter will pull right off

Lol. Though it may work, i dont want it on my mind telling someone that the clip is not needed and they go to shift , shifter comes off pull a toyota move and slam into something lol

im referring to an A4 shifter BTW. not an M6. i think the OP was trying to swap auto shift knobs since the Firebird knob has the button on the side.

now, thats just common sense to not leave the clip out of the knob on a manual

There is no clip on the m6. I am referring to a4.

I can make a video of the clip removed if you like and how loose they are :)

Mine was snug without the Clip.. I lost mine and had to free-99 one..so I had to drive it with it clipless..:D

I will say though if you are grabbin onto the Shifter with some effort to where you would pull the Knob off then you are depending on it way to much..push button in, slide back/forward.

Thats just how I see it though.:)

I guess the ones ive removed are different, but the firebird shifts are loose as a goose, you have to have the clip it or you have to press down hard on the side and top to get the plunger to go down.

That's cause the Fire Bird is made with less quality..:engarde:

I'm just messin..I've seen both. I still prefer the Ball you install with a Wrench..:drive:
