Camshaft Advise?!?
i have a 99 z28 and am wanting to put an aftermarket cam in it, and valvesprings, but i dont want to put an aftermarket intake manifold or throttle body, i realize i would get more HP if i did this but i really am just after the choppy idle and maybe 20 or 30 hp out of the cam, is this possible and will the car run right without upgrading the manifold and tb, and i have a hypertech tune, will i need to get a custom tune if i cam it

If you want a choppy idle go with a 23x/23x cam on a 112 lsa. Should do what you need....
Can i ask your reasons that you dont want to make power?? And you could use a hypertech to correct your idle and do shift points and all that. But really your going to want to get it dyno tuned in order to make sure everything is dialed in right so your not running to rich or lean.....

First thing I'd do is put the stock tune back and throw that hypertech in the trash all they do is increase the timing potentially causing harm to the engine. Also if you want a cam I highly suggest doing atleast an ls6 intake it can be done for about $350 then do the cam and yes a cam will need a custom tune.

Im after power, i just want to cam it and do the valve springs then when i have more money ill throw on a manifold and throttle body, right now my maf is ported and my throttle body is ported and ive got all the basic bolt ons and was just wondering if thats going to be enough to make it run decent with the cam, i know a guy that tunes with EFI Live so that will not be an issue either

If you are just looking for 20 to 30 extra hp you can easily attain that with just a cam swap. With the tune you will probably get more than that. If you plan on changing the intake also then just wait and do it all at once to save yourself some work.

I would go with a low 230/230 size cam on a 111 LSA. That should give you a nice lope... Plus you can always add the IM and TB later. Make sure you get a good tune though those Hypertech's are junk.
