Default From 2.73s to 3.42s

I have a 2000 z28, and have the stock 2.73s in it. I already have the 3.42s, but my question is do I need to buy a 3 series carrier in order to install these?Where can i buy one if it is needed?
I did a few searches and there was minimal/mixed information on this topic, so please help...

Just to clarify, you have the 3.42s out of a 3 series carrier, correct?
If so, you can buy a spacer to fit a 3 series gear in a 2 series carrier, instead of a 3 series carrier. It is not recommended by those in the know, but it can be done.
Just an FYI (I'm not trying to sell you anything) you would be better off getting a set of thick gears designed for the 2 series carrier. But the spacer will get you where you want to go.
