Finally after 7 years of preparing for the 21st Olympic Winter Games, it begins today. As a citizen of Vancouver I would like to welcome everyone. The vibe in the city is unreal and nothing like I have ever experienced. I hope you enjoy The Games.

This logo is called is called Ilanaaq which is the Inuktitut word for friend. The Inuit people of Canada’s Arctic stacked rock in human form to create the inukshuk, a steadfast guidepost that provided direction across the vast horizons of the North. Over time, the inukshuk has become a symbol of hope and friendship, an eternal expression of the hospitality of a nation that warmly welcomes the people of the world with open arms every day. -Olympic 2010 page

Vancouver is said to be a very nice city to begin with. Must be a great atmosphere to be around right now.

I have very little interest in the winter olympics save for hockey. I probably won't watch much.

Anyone watching the opening ceremonies tonight? I'm going to find a bar in Kitsilano to watch it.
It's pretty crazy around here.
People got the fever.
I watched the torch passing last night on 4th Ave and it came right by my work today downtown.
Pretty cool stuff.

Ya usually the local mountains are nice and fluffy with snow at this time of year, however this is an El Nino year and Vancouver is the warmest city to ever host the Winter Olympic games. Thus, needing snow to be brought in. It's just Cypress mountain that needs the snow to be brought in. Whistler/Blackcomb mountains (north of Vancouver) have an amazing snow pack right now.

Can Ryan Miller carry this USA hockey team to Gold? Apparently, Mr. Miller is the man thus far, but USA gave up a ton of shots to Canada.. That defense needs to shore up..

Still 5-3 is impressive win against team Canada..

Great game. Rafalski was on fire. Go Red Wings, in this case go USA!

I agree, the Red Wings have played mediocre all season long. Injuries have not helped, but this play has caused me to feel like I'm 80 instead of 29.

A hot goaltender is the wild card of hockey. No matter how good a team is, if a hot goalie can keep a weaker team in it, they have a chance to win. Just look at the Oilers in 2007 when they beat the Red Wings in the first round of the NHL playoffs. Sad, but I thought that the wings would win it again in the 2007 playoffs.

$50,000 for a pair of tickets, some people have way too much money to spend on stuff. I wish I could was that kind of money on some stuff like that. I still think that either Sweden or Russia will win the goal. I might get a Sweden hockey cap, but not sure where to find one.

Nobody is giving USA hockey a chance in this final game.. All the experts think the first Canada game victory was a fluke. They are saying Canada is clearly the better hockey team..

Now I'm thinking this is not so - This USA hockey team is undefeated in the Olympics thus far and just keep winning, they seem to be improving every game, already beat team Canada last week. USA is fast on the ice and will play better defensive this go around. You just know the goal tending is going to show up for team USA in this one..

With all that being said, I personally am giving this USA hockey team a good chance to win the gold Medal game on Sunday against oh Canada.... DAMN IT!!!!:chug:

Also from vancouver here, I was driving through the whole downtown vancouver at 3am on my b-day last saturday, and holy crap. The amount of ppl still up and wandering around is crazy. The streets are still flooded at 3am, I dont think Vancouver will ever be this crazy ever again. I also had my t-tops off just taking random pictures of downtown vancouver.

But on a side note, I work for the biggest GM dealer in western canada. And at least 80% of the vehicles in the body shop right now are VANOC vehicles and they are pretty f-ed up.

Russia played like how the Czechs did after Jagr was crushed by Ovie, sad and disappointing.

Man, a US v Canada rematch. Awesome, I can't wait for it. I remember the hype from 2002 in Salt Lake City for that gold medal match. Hopefully the US can pull it out, but it will not be easy. The US has played with house money the entire olympics due to their youth, all the pressure is on Canada, but the team that wins the game, definitely deserves the gold.

No favourite, no underdog, just the greatest hockey game in the history of the world.
