I wasnt exactly sure whether this should go into the racing forum or not, but my question was based on just in general, AND racing, whats the best way to smoothly and quickly accelerate in a stock m6 lt1 firebird? My car has the 3.42 gears. I just want to know the best way to take off and get the most out of my car when taking off without absolutely shredding the tires off through the first 3 gears, or when having traction conrtol on, not moving until after first gear lol. i want to know what your guys do. what RPM's you take off at, any specific techniques?

havent gotten to the track yet. try this howver: slip the clutch, dont pop it. leave at around 3,000. vary this, check 60 ft times, etc

im on street tires, which im assuming you are. i hold mine around 3k. i let out on the clutch just a little bit, holding the throttle steady. tires spin a little, and soon as they grab, then i dump the clutch the rest of the way. it'll spin just a little more, but once it grabs, then WFO!

thats just me tho, i dont know if thats right or wrong, im new at all this.

Get a good rearend, shocks and some stickey then dump it at 5000+ depending on whats done to it..Slipping the clutch wears it out faster..but can help the tires from spining..

Like the one said, best you can do without suspension and tires, is slip the clutch as your launching the car. At the drag strip I could manage 1.90s 60fts on 17in street tires, Id hold the throttle at about 4k and ride the clutch out from that. BUT it really heats the clutch up alot, so you cant hot lap it

oh yea, i forgot....my clutch pedal stays on the floorboard after 2nd gear when i slip the clutch

On a stock car, slipping the clutch is really the only way. Problem is as you see, that the clutch doesnt like that much. Then a tick master, and a decent clutch will help that, then you should saveup for a rear. It's been about 7 years since I launched on a stock rear, so I find myself a little bit of a newb where as far as that goes when I drive others cars. But have no fear, If you have money to beef up the driveline. You can pretty much hold the gas @ 6500 rpm, drop the clutch and hold on. So far, Ive hit some 1.42's pretty consistantly.

I used to launch at about 1500 rpm and ease into it....minimum tire spin was ideal...it's a fine line and worked well for me. my goal was to keep the car from blowing the tires off, but JUST a little spin helped me get 12.70's with just headers, no tune and street tires. and btw - I was NOT consistent haha

A 2-step is really helpful also. I wouldn't think of taking a 6sp car to the track without one. Maybe not so much on the street though??

depends on your set-up really. i don't have much track experience but on the street i usually either put the rpms at about 3k and slip the clutch or just dump it at about 2k and peddle it. just gotta practice a few ways and see what works for you. just don't slip your clutch excessively because you can cause damage.

Just like everybody says here....slip slip slip the clutch. I held my c6 vette to 4500 and just slipped it and I was able to muster 1.7 60ft every once in a while. When I would **** up it always end up 2.1 or worse short time.

it's all on feel. put it at about 3k, then let the clutch out to where you have good acceleration but no wheel spin. while doing this, increase the gas as you slowly let out the clutch. the more you practice, the better you will be able to feel when your getting the most out of it. watch some youtube videos of people launching too, that might help you get a grasp of the method.

Yeah Iv gotin a 1.8 I think best..miss 4th somehow..
Last time out I wasnt having any luck..smoked out a 2.3 60ft lol and still ran 12.2s -12.3s at 118 lol and spun a lot of second and a bit of third..on DRs..this year out..shes getin new rearend and slicks baby..6400 and let her eat
