If you are referring to the stock fading filler panel ...that right there is paint w/ horrible UV protection. Grab a rag, dab it with rubbing alcohol and scrub away until it comes all off. Then if there's an imprint from the paint, which most likely there is, you will have to sand it down. I sanded my filler down with 600 grit, then 1000, then wet 1500 and wet 2000. Finally, grab some meguiars or your favorite plastic polisher and either hand polish it or use an orbital to remove all the tiny hair like scratches left over. Then, just buy a new set of decals (fourth circle designs, ebay, wherever) and put it on .

IMO, you do not need to completely sand down the old stuff. get the sticker off yes, but the impression of the old stuff will help you. when i bought my car there was an impression of the old sticker and thats what i used to place the new one. it was multiple pieces (each letter is seperate except for the n and s in trans) and the bird is 5 or 6 pieces. i took the center panel out by removing the taillights (once the tails are out the center piece slides right out) and did mine in my kitchen sink. I went with a nice gold. i did mine 5 years ago with gold vinyl stickers from ebay and it still looks good although the trans am lettering is starting to show a little sun fade i think compared to the bird.
and yeah i know my tailpipes are filthy in the first pic, lol. i cleaned them up a bit before the T/A nats. the second pic was taken after my muffler was changed so thats why the tailpipes sit lower. the decal dooesn't show up as good in #2 because i think the flash was on.

1) when you get it from fourth circle designs, ask to have it on transfer paper..so you don't have to individually put on each piece of the decal.
2) he's absolutely right, you don't have to go through the polishing process, but if you want your filler panel to come out looking new I would do it. Might as well do the same thing w/ your tails while you have it out.

I did clean the center panel but i didn't completely polish it because i wanted to align the new sticker correctly. its a little bit off (IIRC its slightly too high) but you can only tell if you are like 2 inches from it and can see the old impression under the bird.

That's the same firebird design that's on my front plate filler of my trans am from the factory although they do put just the outline bird on the tail center panel. But i actually like the way that looks because it would match the front bird.

No its actually a trans am.... I just used the front bird decal for the rear because i dont have a place to use it on the front because of my intercooler, lol (it stands out better than the stock bird also)

Trans Am Jam, I am really liking the matte black on black filler. Nice and subtle. I have mine sanded smooth and buffed at the moment, and a mint red stocker on my dresser that I can't seem to put on my car because I don't want it to fade I hope you don't mind, I may have to look into that more. Very nice
Do you possibly have any pics in daylight of it?
thank you
