Default Yes, Another Rear Main Seal Thread

I got tired of searching and finding different answers, so please bare with me.

My new seal came in the mail today, the "revised" version. Do I need to buy a new backing plate?

And should the seal be lubed before installing?

I've been reading answers that swing both ways, so please post up if you are 100% sure. Thanks!

Lube it before you put the whole thing back over the crank.
