Been searching around and I don't want to risk a crappy weld job on my transmission pan due to some guy stating he can do it and half ass it.

Anyone know a good welder (preferably near Fullerton) that can weld a bung on a transmission pan? Contact info would be great!

Thanks in advance.

edit

I think I found a way around this.

The company is based out in Ontario and they actually do a will-call so its $16 + tax (for either 460le and TH350) for a deep pan with a drain plug. It doesn't have a magnet in the pan but they do sell a $4 magnetic plug that fits the pan so all together, $20 bucks.

What do you guys think of this? I just got quoted $20 to weld a bung so almost the same in cost.

Any thoughts / concerns? Anyone want me to pick one up for them?

I don't see what the risk is. Just buy a bung, remove your pan, use a hole saw and cut the right size hole, then take the pan and the bung to an exhaust shop and have them weld it on. I'm assuming the trans pan is made of steel, should be no issue with welding.

sounds easy enough but you'd be surprise on how many shops I've been to where they let anyone start welding.

Got your PM. I got a couple of things I needed welded in the future so I'll keep your contact handy.

I'm going with the larger transmission pan posted on the first post + magnetic drain plug. $20 bucks for a new deep pan sounds better than welding a $25 drain plug on my existing drain pan.

Thanks for the info guys.

Never take it to a muffler shop, guys who run muffler shops do not know how to weld. The only exception I have found to this is Eddie around the corner from CMS, other than that I have never been happy with welds from a muffler shop and regreted not doing it myself.

Yeah, I went to a couple of exhaust shops around town and it nearly had me running scared. I'm just going with a deep transmission pan with a plug. $20 bucks for the pan and cooler oil is a plus.
