Since the car is 5 years old and have been using a K/N filter I figured it might be time.
How do you tell if it is dirty?
How do I clean it?
It's a Granntelli (sp)
Thanks in advance

Go to your nearest Radio Shack or computer parts place, and pick up an aerosol can of electronics parts cleaner. It works well and evaporates very quickly. That is what most of us use. Some cleaners will leave a film on whatever they clean, and that would screw up your MAF readings. Only use electronics cleaner.

Is it still necessary (or just good practice) to clean a MAF even if it has be de-screened?

I think they are talking about oil from the filter getting on the sensing elements of the MAF. If you have a paper filter I woulnd't think you would have to worry about it, but if you have any oil base filter you will probally need to clean the MAF after a while regardless if it's descreened or not. Good Luck

I'll keep that in mind....I've put about 95,000 miles on the car since installing the K&N, so I guess I'd better clean it sometime soon....

So what I'm hereing is to remove the MAF from the car and spray it down with the Electronics Cleaner and re-install?
If not how do I go about the whole procedure?
Thanks for any and all input!

once you get the MAF out, take some time and clean your throttle plate and bore. Bet ya it's black and gungie. I use air intake cleaner and a toothbrush. Also, pull the IAC motor out and give that a scrub. Get a rag and put your finger in the IAC bore and twist your finger in there and alot of black crap will come out of there too.

I just had a new ported Throttle Body installed about 1 month ago.

best way to clean maf imo is to take it out, place it in a big freezer bag with pure rubbing alcohol, shake n bake and let it sit overnight.
We use this method for VW maf's which have a very high tendency to fail due to K&N Juice (oils). It cures almost all of the cases of low maf signal. They are very fragile. I'd assume a similar action would work on all other cars as well.
Don't over oil your K&N it will make the maf's life miserable.

I just used some Q-tips and alcohol to clean mine. Went really fast without any trouble. Be very careful though, the resisitors are extremely easy to bend and break off.

Like Nine Ball say's get some contact cleaner at electrical part's store, it's quick and easy and it's what GM uses.
