Default The Ultimate Car Mod

Hi I have a 2001 Firebird and i was wondering if it was possible to cut the top off (like the area where the T-tops go) and have it like a detachable roof. (Like the way a Toyota Supra has.Like in the movie "The Fast and the Furious") i was wondering if it was possible and how much would it cost and all.. Please help thanks!

There was a discussion of this on camaroz28.com . I think someone said it would totally mess up the support of the car because it was designed to require that middle brace. Check on that site under appearance.

It has been done, there where pics of a very wicked looking magenta/purple Camaro with that mod a while back looked cool. And yes subframe connectors would be required.

A sunroof? I can't see why anyone would want to do that.

I once helped install a sunroof on a 93 Z28. The sunroof came with A piler frame braces. The braces went from the a piler to the back of the window on top (where you would unlock the T-tops).They were about 1/8 inch thick. My friend still has the car and it seems tight.

This has been done...my friend with the pink pearl ls1 did it. He cut out the center bar and made a one piece carbon fiber top....SICK!!! He is also making carbon fiber hoods...which he will be selling, it has a slight cowl to it, very cool looking...I will have lots of pics posted after he is done with the car, probably around the end of Oct. at the Super Chevy show...It is also getting a new paint job...

I am thinking about the carbon fiber top for a future mod. It is just SICK! Also weighs close to nothing...

I've been driving my car with the targa roof for about 5 months now with no grief. The center part starts whistling wind noise at speeds over 120-125... I guess I'll have to live with that. I have boxed BMR SFC's welded to the entire side of the rocker panel pinchweld for extra strength.

Unless you've got some fabricating/welding/bodywork/interior/headliners skills it's probably not worth your time. It would probably cost at least a few grand to do at a reputable shop.

If you could find one that would do it and assume the liability.

Anyone remember the tv show "Simon & Simon"? They drove around in a 3rd gen camaro with the entire roof section cut out!
