Default 4:56s too much gear for me?

Im about to order my rearend. I was going to get a Spooled 12 bolt with 4:56s. Narrow it a bit.

MS4 Cam 6 Speed 425 to the wheels. With a 28in tire Im worried that I might now have enough power to turn that big monster? Im also looking at loosing a bit of weight it the car, drag breaks, kmember, and little stuff under the hood.

Should I stick with these or go with 4:30s and a 26 or 27in tire?

We are running a 4.56 gear and 30" tire on our LT1 stock internals car. It makes just a little over 300 HP.

Should be fine, Im running 28's, 4.56's last setup was patriot stage 1's and a torquer II, 439 rwhp, 10.95. Had some room up top, 1.42 60's... I think you will be fine......

3105-10 with me in it....

@ 3300 it went 11.13

With the LS6 intake and 418 rwhp it went 11.36 @ about 3350 lbs

But I had 27's and 4.11's for that 11.36 run.

All in all, gearing up, and going to the 28's, my 60's dropped from 1.57- 1.42

n/a car I'd put 4.56 or 4.71 in it with a 28 inch tire, all day long. If the car's lighter, light enough so it will need the rpm range to get thru the traps in 4th I'd run the 4.56, but if the car is heavy, 3600+ I'd put 4.71, or whatever the next step up from a 4.56 is for a 12 bolt, and feel good about it. If you put heads on and find you're running out of gear, then change it.

With an M6 in the car... you can really get away with a TON of gear on the street, and still have it be livable.... so take advantage! Just remember, that tranny isn't bullitproof and will sooner or later give up the ghost in one way or another.

You need to answer a few questions before we can start to figure the optimal gear/tire combo.

What does the trap (or the expectation)?
What does the power band look like up top?
How much and when does power drop off?
What's the anticipated shift rpm?
How much tire do you need to hook?

Last time out on a 315/35/17 Mickey T..25.5 or 26in tire

Car went 12.2s-3s at 118 spining all of first all of second and most of third if I powershifted..

That was with a 4:10 gear also

Shifted at 6800

Anybody that knows or has tuned a car with an MS4 should know its all top end cam..
Peaks about 66 or 67 I think..Id have to look at dyno sheets..

Too many say 4:56 or so with a 28in stiff wall..thats what Im doing, popular set up for engine mods..provin..why not!

I would definately go with 4.56s. I have 4.30s and a 28" tire. My car traps high 121s and I have plenty of rpm left when I go through the traps. I wish I would've gone with 4.56s. I still might swap to them if I can't get the car in the 10s.

I am trapping 127 with 4:56's and 28X10.5s. Rpms are about 7000 at the stripe.
Its a nice combo. Good Luck!

so is it realy better useing a stiff wall vs a 2ply wrinkle wall m/t? on a m6. will it mph different or what is the reason y most guys run the stiff wall ? I thought you would want the wrinkle wall to take some of the shock with a m6 car.

sidewall lasts a lot longer in a heavy stick car using a stiff wall tire is my understanding
