So my car has the Ls6 Valley cover. It worked great till I put a big cam in the car. After the big cam install it was sucking a lot of oil through the intake. So I picked up a Vac can and plan to also use it as a catch can.

I plugged off all the old vac spots on the valve covers.

I am running a line from the Ls6 valley cover to the canister. Then the other line from the can to the intake.


It shows IIRC, -3 vac on the guage at idle and goes up with RPM.


Is this setup good enough?

Don't you need a breather on that catch can?
From what I've been told it's better to draw from the valve covers, least one of them, because it's the highest point on the motor.
Your set up seems to have nowhere for pressure to go, I think if the catch can had a breather you would suck less oil out.

Yes he absolutley needs a fresh air source. I am not sure how a vac can is setup internally but a catch can has a specific design internally to make it function right. A catch can is not an empty canister it needs to meet volume requirements as well.

I was wondering about that. But a stock setup doesn't use a breather? Wouldn't this cause a vac leak?

Stock setup has fresh air fed thru. A seperate port in the TB. This port does not introduce air into the intake manifold like most (including myself at one time) think. This port bypasses the throttle blade.

The best way to go about it, would be to vent the motor well, and not have anything hooked up to the intake. This will 100% prevent any oil from getting into the intake.
