Default Limited slip rebuid?

i just bought a 98 trans am LS1 it has 57000 mi on it so i dont know what caused it. but sometimes the diff will grab sometimes not. but it wont at all in cold weather. i tried replacing the fluid but that didnt help. my question is can i replace the clutches or do i have to replace the whole diff? whats the best to use? any help is great!

my autotech teacher back in high school was a drivetrain tech for dodge and he said that somtimes they will not engange all the way if they are cold. once they warm up, thats when they are going to grip, i guess you would say... just a thought

yea i could see that, but the problem is even when warm its still iffy. u never know for sure if it will grab. the damn thing only has 57000 mi on it.... what could cause such a premature failure? the last person who owned it from new to 55000 mi was a little old lady and i know that she couldn't have been to hard on it.
