I am wanting to know, if it would be a good idea to install a set of 3:73's in my 99 Z28 M6? Mods are Cam, 243's, built tranny, bolt-ons.....I have the stock 10 bolt now and have the 3:42's. I plan on keeping the 10 bolt.....Thanks

It will make it accelerate faster but reduce your gas mileage. I have 373s and my engine turns 2k rpm @ 80mph.

What are some plans for the car? Daily Driver? Street/Strip?

3:73s or 4:10s for Daily driving would be fine. My G/F can drive mine with 4:10s all day long with no issues and does really effect my Gas Milage..but I didnt buy the car for Gas Mileage..Im geting ready to go 4:56s..

its not a DD but does get some street use. Goes to the track 3-4 times a month.

I gotta buddy with 3.73's in an M6, we run at the track regularly in the summer and he leaves a little on the table timewise with them I think.

Myself and most other guys around here will tell you that 4.10's on a stock tire size will be your best bet at the strip. You will get into the pwwer band even earlier with 4.10's for a better 60' and finish at the top of 4th on the big end.

That's what you want, but in a 10 bolt they will be considerably weaker and not up to handling big dumps as they would in a bigger casing.

4.11 from what ive read all these years is the preferred gear for m6, while 3.73 for auto. in the end its all personal preference though. good luck with your decision.

I have had 3.73s behind my car when it was an auto and they where awsome. I loved them. I recently swaped my car 2 a 6spd and ran the 3.73s for about a month after the swap. The gears decided 2 take a crap on me from some track abuse and trying 2 learn how to launch a 6spd for the first time. I now have 4.10s in the car and i love them more than the 3.73s for sure!! The 4.10s pull harder and get u into your power band quicker. 4th gears with the 4.10s pull like 3rd with the 3.73s! By the way my car is a full bolt-on car.

the 3.73s make 6th a usable gear and for many it means you don't have to shift out of 4th in the quarter. I have been very happy with mine.

I run 3.73s in my m6 and love them...especially with the spray. I think 4.10s would be a little too short with the spray imo

I have driven a 4.10 and there is hardly a first gear. Every street light will seem like a race.

+1 I run spray and would agree. 3.73 is a awesome highway gear. I would consider 4.10s if I were building a 1/4 mile car.

i run 3.73s cus i swapped mine to 6spd. If youre building more of a track car go with 4.10s, im on the street a lot more than im at the track so 3.73s work great. Works out perfect for all the imports that run around and wanna do 50-60 rolls cus with 3.73s you can start in 2nd(im pretty sure its at about 5k) and really get a hard jump.

My 3.89s are great. Should be perfect on the bottle and a 28" tire in the 1/4 too. That's my vote!

You will basically notice your car will no longer have dead spots like it does with 3.42's. From a roll it's an honest 3 car lengths better from 40-130 (starting in 2nd). From a launch I've noticed it is a whole lot easier to get the car moving without it falling on its face with no real change in cruising rpms. Good overall gear for a cam only or beyond car with a 26" tire.
