Default switch oils?

hey fellas,

i have been using Castrol Syntec 5W-40 on my 02 Z28 for the last 2-3 years atleast instead of 5W-30 because i kept hearing how thin 5w-30 was and so fourth. i havent had any problems or issues at all and wondering would i even have any problems or should i even switch to 5w-30?

This "thin 5w30" doesn't pertain to all 5w30 oils. It was the Mobil 1 5w30 that was at the thinner end of the 5w30 spectrum.

If your wanting to try or switch to 5w30, Pennzoil Platinum has showed good UOA, is easy to find, and is priced affordable.

I use to use Royal Purple 10W-30 but i was burning to much oil. Didn't know if it was the car or the oil. So i switched to Castrol Edge 10W-30 and haven't had the issue since.

If you can find it, I recommend German Castrol 0w-30. That is the only oil I run in any of my vehicles.

The bottle looks exactly like the Castrol Syntec bottles, but there will be a small banner on the label that either says "German Formula" or "European Formula".

I believe you'll be just fine. I've switched between oil weights a few times with no ill side effects.

Add one to that now. And fortunately we had everything under control before you got here. Thanks for the contribution though.

Believe me man, tech is my second home. I figured I'd lend some help since it is the newbie section. They all learn eventually, I know I did.

I personally find this extremely interesting... I like royal purple, but i thought it was really weird that my car is consuming oil, but there's nothing in my catch can. ... Maybe i'll have to try something else and see if anything changes. I wont be missing those $100 oil changes LOL... ok it's not that much, but it's not cheap.

I've never seen anyone say anything good about Royal Purple's engine oils.

im tired of seeing those useless *** replies too.. "GO SEARCH".. why even post in the thread. maybe somebody discovered something totally new compared to some of those old threads.

i wanted to know if anybodies car ran different once they switched oils.. this isnt the same.. "hey what oil do you use", " whats the best oil". i want to see if anybody had problems by switching. besides, with 4,000 posts, i wouldnt say im a noob either.

I initially was running 5w-30 and was having slight lifter issues. switched to 10w-40 and has gotten so much better since. I live in the hot houston, texas summers so I can get away with it.

I just bought 6 quarts of RP and a K&N Oil Filter from O'Reileys for $54 after tax.

I use it in all my cars and I have been very happy with it. But I was also happy with Mobile 1 Full Synthetic too...

Can't knock it. If it works for you then it works. Don't fix what isn't broke!
