Default My rearend dont have any shims!

I just disassembled my rearend in my 01 Z today and all it had in it was 2 spacers and no shims. Is this a common thing? I thought all rearends come from the factory with the 2 spacers and a few shims.

those 2 spacers are the shims.OEM builders use spacers as they have spacers in .001" increments and are able to set the backlash with only a spacer/shim on each side.when we rebuild/set backlash,we don't have that variety of spacers to work with so we're required to use shim packs.

When you're finished rebuilding your rear and if you by chance don't end up using the factory shims ( i didn't) Try to sell them to a local GM shop. I did and made twenty bucks cause appearntly GM doesn't supply their shops with those kinda of shims anymore they're just at the factory.

Back in the 60s'/70s', hey I'm old, the local Buick dealer parts department would call me to see if I had a specific dimension shim needed by one of their service bay technicians, back then all cars had rearends, if I had one, they would just trade me. Back then it was 8.2,8.5, & 8.8(12 bolt) rearends.

LOL. This is funny. We have about 300 shims on a spool of mechanics wire out in the shop. I think its the only one in our county...

Dam! I have taken several rearends apart and they have all had aftermarket shims in them. And I thought they were virgins!?!
