Street Racing & Kill Stories - WS6 vs GT500

Since the GT500 was bought by my uncle I have wanted to run it. I was sure I would beat him when he was stock. Never got around to racing him while he was stock tho. He ended up doing a few things to the car such as CAI, exhaust, pulley, and 373s in it. Car runs awesome. I figure he is putting down 530 or so from videos I have seen on youtube. Anyways he sold the car to his son(my cousin) and I finally got to race it. The gt500 had a passenger. This is about how it went.

1st race... Started from a 40. We were both in second gear. He nails it then I do without honks. He jumped half a car then I stopped his pull. I shifted into 3rd and start coming back. Then he shifts and I fly past him. Fuckin goober shifted into 5th instead of 3rd. lol. He said his nerves got the best of him. First time actually racing the car since he bought it.

2nd race... Started from 40 again. I honked this time. Pretty even until 4th when I started to pull. Shut down at 110 cause of a turn on the highway.

3rd race..... Lucky enough to catch a red light. Dig time!!! The light turns green and I let him go. We are both on street tires so we both spun. Since he hasn't had the car very long I wasn't expecting him to do well from a dig. So he takes off first. Both of us spinning. I spun through first and went into 2nd. I started to peddle the throttle and finally got traction and got back into it. By this time he is a car ahead of me. I hit 3rd gear and start to pull on him. Same with 4th. I'm about 3/4 of a car ahead. I usually don't shift into 5th gear at wot but since it was such a close race I went for it. We shut down at around 130 with me a car ahead.

Overall some awesome races. My car shocked my cousin, my other cousin following in his gt, and a friend of ours. They were not quite expecting my cam only ta to beat his pullied gt500. Well it did. I've hurt a lot of feelings with this car but I honestly didn't think I would be out front on this one. Again the gt500 had a passenger. But I wasn't in my racing shoes. Plus I had my back seats and spare tire back in.

First win of the year against a pullied gt500... awesome!

Oh by the way, some people thought I was lying at first because of my track time(12.2 @ 115). This car can run 11s with a 9 inch. I slip the clutch of the line and run 2.0 60' times or worse. Can't afford a rear end right now.

You should of lost, period. There are just pullied GT500's in the 10's, that GT500 could easily run bottom 11's with a mediocre driver and a set of drag radials.

Especially from a roll, you're down 150rwhp and like 180rwtq. Unless you have a ton of weight reduction, you shouldn't win against an equal driver.

I was not expecting to win. I said he had a passenger(200+lbs) and he had just bought the car and it was his first real race. Traction was an issue with him too. I'm not acting like I can beat every pullied gt500 out there. Just a fun few races that i had last weekend.

As I pulled up he told the customers "this car would easily outrun this Cobra here". I had my windows down so I heard him. I got out and told him we would go line them up right in front of the dealership and if he could outrun me I would trade in my car and buy that one no questions asked. He declined and said he couldn't do it. :gtfo:

Being used to a car does a lot for ya on the street. Saying he should have won doesnt mean much, we know a pullied GT500 should trap higher then 115 but it doesnt matter. Good kill and way to make it a family affair haha

Just to throw it out there, the pullied GT500s I raced both pulled HARD on me after both giving me the hit. I'd say through third and fourth one pulled about 2-3 cars and the other pulled more. They are fast as hell. And I trap 120ish depending on the weather (best of 121.8 on a cold day at a good track, 117 on a hot day at a shitty track).

Good race, man! Like you said, it was a street race, just because something should happen doesn't mean it will. (For instance, a GT500 making that much power could well have been spinning into 3rd, allowing the TA to pull.)

Anyway a properly modded GT500 should put down around 500+ RWHP pretty easily. But a driver who's scared to press the go fast pedal will make up for a lot.

good Kill OP. I've been out of the game for a minute but I didn't know the GT500 would dip into the 10's with just a pully swap!!! I'm assuming that's with exhaust and all or am I wrong lol? Either way I will be watching out for them this year lol.

The guy who posted that 10 second bullshit is obviously wrong. Sorry, but you aren't picking up 2 seconds simply by adding another 100rwhp! Not to mention all the suspension, rearend, and transmission mods it would take to make one of those things run 10's legitimately.

Got an acquaintence who has a GT500KR that I've been bugging to run. :) He declined until after he gets it pullied, tuned, and "other matching mods". $86,000 Mustang and the guy is worried a bolton GTO might actually beat him. beautiful car though, I'll give him that! 'cept those 20" rims arent helping the performance one iota.

Thanks guys. I'll try to get a video of a rematch when he gets some more seat time. Only next time i'll be in my racing shoes and some weight taken out.

When they bought the pulley, it was one of the steeda kits that came with a programmer already set. So it hasn't been dyno tuned. Still a fast car with awesome street manners so I'm sure the tune is pretty good.

I have owned a 2000 z28 though, which is why I joined this forum years ago, also a 2006 mustang gt, I'm not really bias at all, just stating facts, if you noticed one of your own boys stated that he traps almost 120mph, makes more power than the OP and gets yanked by pullied GT500's, so take that for what it is.

I am not wrong, I didn't say every pullied GT500 will run 10's, but there are plenty that do, feel free to browse over to www.svtperformance.com and see for yourself. Most pullied stock blower GT500's run high 10's and low to mid 11's at 122-126mph. Don't know why the guy in the GT500kr would be afraid to race you unless he didn't know what a GTO was because he would obliterate your car if all you have is the mods in your sig.


Honestly, I think my next car will be an LS3 based Corvette, I'm not some fanboy, I love all fast cars on each side.

I don't blame you on the nitrous. A lot of time was spent redoing things based on what was found out along the way. Heat soak/Heat issues, turbo housing size for a 408 CI versus the stock size motor, Single turbo versus twins, radiator sizing and type, water pump flow rate issues and of course drivability versus race tune. It's fun now just working on launches and small tweaks.

I do have a lot of respect for the guys out there putting down big HP and they use their car as a DD. My next purchase is a C6 Z06. I'd like to see perfect street manners in a 600RWHP car built for Road Racing. That's a next year project though....here I go again..LOL

The GT500s I have seen with little mods didn't run that fast considering the power they made. I think the weight has a lot to to with it.

You are right! You probably would not beat a stock LS1 regularly, but in that one race you did! The faster car does not always win. As I posted earlier, its about driving skills and getting traction that wins all races! Not would've, could've, and should've.

Hell I can get my stock GT spin with 555s.

When it's above 60 degrees around here my car will dead hook from a 1st gear roll. I have some cheap nexen 275/40/17's on stock suspension and don't have any issues on the street. Hey why did Lemons get banned?

I have more than just a cam. I wasn't talking about cam only cars beating a gt500. I was talking about the 03/04 cobras. Res0n is talking like a pullied cobra almost cannot lose to a cammed f-body. And yes as far as street racing goes, anything can happen. That's why it's fun. People who race by hp numbers need to take their asses in the bench racing section.
