harmonic balancer - is mine in too far?
need a little help...i noticed this when i went to put on the belt - it doesn't look like the harmonic balancer is in line with the alternator pulley, if that makes sense. i installed the harmonic balancer and torqued the crank bolt to 200 ft lbs.
Engine is a 2000 Corvette LS1. The alternator bracket is from a fourth gen fbody (mentioning this in case it matters).
Is this normal? The reason I ask is because I thought the belt should be "in line" with all the pulleys and the crank. The alternator pulley and the alternator bracket pulley look like they stick out farther than the harmonic balancer.
Do I need to get a harmonic balancer puller and pull it out some??

Is the balancer off of the corvette engine? If it is then you need to get an f-body balancer to match up with the accessories. LS engine have different balancers for every accessory drive. The corvette one sits closest to the engine, then the f-body, then the truck. Or you could get the corvette accessory to match your damper. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the responses guys. Yeah merv, the accessories are from an fbody. Didn't know the vette and fbody balancers were different.
I'll hunt down an fbody one today and that should line everything up. Thanks again for the info, I appreciate it!
