So I was sitting at home tonight after checking my mail, and seeing a letter from my insurance company. I've had provisional insurance for the first 14 days of ownership, and I have a lien on the car so they want full coverage on it. On the letter it says they want to charge me $155.04 a month!

My GTO has a rebuilt title, 53K, I have a very good driving record, about to turn 30, no major accidents, no DUIs, a speeding ticket here and there, nothing more than 20 over. This to me sounds ridiculous. I mean, I pay only $65 a month for full coverage on my Silverado pickup!

But then I thought, maybe I'm not crazy and this is just what it costs to insure cars like this. So what do you guys pay and is it justified?

I've got My gto insured on Full coverage with a lein against it and an old truck with the same coverage because i drive about as much as my car. Together I'm paying right at $1200/yr for both vehicles.

did you not check the rates before you decided to buy the car?

I pay $62 a month for full coverage with a $500 deductible in IL. But I am not shocked by your rate. I was happy when I got my quote and found out it was dropping $5 a month from my previous car with less HP :)

I think I can make that come down. All they know about the car is that it is a 2006 GTO, they don't even have the VIN yet. I was prepared to pay over $100, I get that two door muslces cars will be pricey to insure, but still. They'll have to come down some or I'll just find someone else.

Well, it turns out my insurance company made a "mistake" on the letter they sent me. It implies every monthly payment will be $155, but what they really want is the first two months and then it's going to be $77.50 a month from then on out. Funny how these things happen. :) Either way, it's way less that I was anticipating so I'm thrilled!

Ummmmm, I pay $585 every 6 months for my 2004 GrandAm, 2002 z28, 2003 s10 Zr2 and a 1994 s10 4x4. This is in the state of Ohio. Last year, I was living in the Los Angeles area and I paid $1220 a year for liability ONLY on my 2 trucks. Threads like this are pretty useless without additional information such as: age, gender, location, driving record, policy discounts (multiple vehicles, homeowners, etc).

Credit?? I didn't think that had anything to do with your insurance...This is new to me.

I pay around $180.00 a month for full coverage on two cars. I think my camaro is the bulk of that though. :D

Sway99bird and I pay 350/month for a trans am, gto, and a dually full coverage on all vechiles with 500 ded on comp and collision. I work for an insurance compay and how we do the quotes is according to the symbol...Vechiles go by symbol based on perfomance and roll over rate etc. There are some companies that wont even take performance vechiles with out 15 years of driving experience.

i was paying 900ish a year when i had my TA and i was 20. (94 ta). i turned 71 and was paying 636 a year.
my gto with full coverage is 1200ish a year and im now 22.

why not just pay your own insurance and get your own policy? it could be cheaper than staying on your parents plan.

Not a bad idea but i want to get a quote first. our insurance went WAY down when we switched to this new company so it could be rather cheap if under my dads name. but i need to be sure i can make monthly installments also so it would help to have my rents cover it. the ford explorer i drive now alone proves i could pay for a GTO though lol with TERRIBLE gas mileage and parts always failing maybe i could afford the car with full coverage.
