What does a stock Z28 hood weigh? I want to get a VFN SS hood that weighs 25 lbs. and I want to know if it's worth it. I tried posting in the weight reduction forum, but I got no responses. Thanks. ;)

Stock is 48#, most pin on fiberglass hoods are around 16-20#, and most bolt on fiberglass hoods are 35-40#.

My stock hood weighed 48 pounds. The 18 pound stated factory looking bolt on VFN weighed 22 pounds.
The edges look pretty bad on the VFN. You need to have a shop that specializes in fiberglass to fix it if you want it to look good.

22 before paint. 22 1/2 pounds after painting. Weights without latches.

So you say the VFN hoods are pretty rough huh? Hmm, I'd like to shave some more weight off the nose, but I don't want the car to look bad. Does any run a 2" VFN Cowl on their Camaro? Pics? Problems? Experiences? Thanks.

My VFN Pin on looks great. I saw the pics of Larry's when he posted them. The Bolt on is much thicker then the pin on. I don't think what larry is talking about would be noticable with the hood closed, only open.

You can see the sharp edge with the hood closed but it is probably acceptable for most. If you are very particular with your car then it would probably not be acceptable.
If I had it to do all over I would have a fiberglass shop fix it before painting!
well... VFN is a fiberglass shop... as a customer couldn't one just ask for it to be de-burred or cleaned up?

Why should you have to ask for it to come made right? I would have gladly asked had I known it was so bad. They should let buyers know it comes needing more work or offer to do the work at extra charge!
My bad... I didn't notice your location. Yeah, if you're in Texas it's kinda of a PITA to have VFN fix the problem. I will probably be getting their flat LT1 bolt-on hood either this summer or the summer of '05. It would be interesting to see how they would react if someone local came in to pick up their hood and said they weren't satisfied and wouldn't buy it until it was "fixed".
Thanks for the info Larry :)

I live within an hour of VFN and heard that they've cleaned up their designs quite a bit since the older burred days. Would a bolt on 22 lb. hood be worth the time and hassle over a stock hood?
