Default 317 vs. 243

Does anyone run 317 heads (Truck 6.0) N/A with good luck? (BTW these are the aluminum ones, I think they also made steel 317's.) I know guys that use them with boosted applications due to the lower comp., approx 9.4:1. I have an LQ4 with torquer3 cam and a set of heavily ported 317's sitting on my work bench. A pretty knowledgeable friend of mine has a set of p/p 243's he would sell to me, and says they would work much better since they would be appox 10.4:1. I appriciate any advice on this.

For N/A I would go with the 243's. The lq4 and lq9 have the same 317 heads and the lq4 gets its lower compression from the dished piston (lq9=flat top piston)

Thanks for your time! I have had some SBC's that put me into mid 11's with 100 shot in my '53 Chevy truck....but now I have this lq4 sitting in it and I am new to these engines. These are lightyears ahead of the SBC, it is amazing how much power you can make with one reliably and on pump gas. Thanks again,

I hear ya on SBC, my dad has a 76 vett (350ci SBC) he did a body off restoration on, and thought I was full of **** about how much more power the ls1 had VS SBC. It took about 3 gears on his first ride in my car to humble to the old man alittle. Good luck with the lq4 and you might want to throw that 100 shot on it when you get it all dialed it

Hell yes! My dad has owned this truck since before I was born (32 now), and I scared him with the old motor. I've got it slammed down with Fatmans stainless Mustang11 front and 4-link rear w/ 9". When dad saw this truck pull the front tires off...(only a few inches) and go down the track at Pinks all out St. Louis he said he almost got a tear in his eye! I can't wait to get it dialed and strap him in for a cruise. Fun ****.
