C5 vs C6 to dollars question
Im in the market looking at buying a vette when i return from deployment, and i'm willing to spend around 28k total. now my question is if i buy a C6 i really wont have all that much extra to buy mods, then if i get the C5 i'll have a few extra grand in the mod funds bank. what is everyones thought on this? i know the quality on the c6 is head over shoulders better than the c5....but is it really worth that much? trying to get some idea's as i was really looking at getting a c6 but then seeing how all the c5 guys are able to mod theirs up is making me second guess myself. anyways thanks in advance for yalls input.

Just really depends on what ur looking at for the cars. How fast do you want them to be, which one do you like more. Stuff like that. If your going for performance right now get the c5 as you can make it faster and afford it now then the C6, if that makes sense.

There are pros and cons to both.
With the C5 you can read the codes right off the dash.... can't do that with a C6.
The C5 computers are easier to tune when it comes to the details.... I'm talking hptuners apples to apples. Lots on this on corvetteforum.
In the end, get what you would want if it was the last car you could buy..
Personally I love the lines of the C5, and I'd only get a C6 if it was a Zo6.
Better yet, make that your bogey from the start... a C6Zo6.

from reading on corvetteforum everyone is always saying that it's a night and day difference. like all the panels dont rattle or how the seals actualy seal out water when raining. things like that is what im' talking about.
performance wise i really am not looking at making it a bad *** bruiser, maybe a simple heads and cam thing. i already have the turbocharged camaro.... no point in making two of the same kind

With that being said I have a C5 Z. Its a great platform to start your build. The car is great, handling is great, and you will have mod money. Its your money!
FWIW...If I had YOUR money...I'd get a C5 Z for 22k and mod it with a procharger or TT.

You can get more for your money with a C5. Also I don't know abuout the interior of the C6 being light years above a C5. My 10 year old FRC has no rattles or squeeks and it doesn't leak either.
Why would you rather have a C6? Plus I would still out run you if you had a C6 also.

personally, i think the C6 better looking, but everyone has their own opinion on looks. the reason i would really pick a C6 over a C5 is the motor. unless you find an absolute steal, youll be looking at LS2's but that really doesnt matter for my reason. LS2 = bigger bore, which means you can take it out to 402/408 if youd like, as well as use the L92 heads. the LS1, even a C5Z cant claim either of those. if you are going to stretch the modding budget going for a C6, then a C5 would probably be the better choice. its not like its a bad choice either.

Been there done that and won't be going back to a C6 unless it is a Z. I really think the C5 Z is a better looking car. Way more people check out my C5 Z then when I had my 07 monteray red Z or the Lemans blue z61 06 coupes I had.
I admit the C6 had better headlights. The keyless thing bugged me. The car wasn't as wide as my C5 hence the different offsets. The only thing I missed was the headlights and the navi other then that get a C6z or just do the C5 thing and mod it to **** C6Z people off.

My opinion since you asked would be to look for a high mileage 02-04 c5zo6. The price will be down, and use the savings to build a 402 to have in the wings for the time when she lets go. Add headers and a tune to your stock motor and enjoy it. Many c5z's with headers and a tune have put down 380 rwhp easily !! Some in the 390's. That should get you started. Also by having a forged 402 in the wings you know you have nothing to worry about other then spending the weekend doing the swap. Good luck without whatever you decide. Get home safe man !!!
