Default Need to decide quick on a tire size...

Well guys, ive been needing tires for awhile but im finally about to order some. Ive been waiting in hopes that a good deal would come along on some used tires in the right size but i havent had any luck on that.

Size wise, im on stock wheels (which i plan to stick with) and im looking to stay staggered. Im currently dropped 1 coil in the front and 1-1/4 in the rear on stock springs which sits right at the tires both front and back on 275/40/18's and 245/45/18's.

Can i go any wider than a 275 in the rear? 245's up front is already enough for me so those will stay the same width wise.

Sidewall wise, should i stick to the stock diameter or drop to a 275/35 in the rear and a 245/40 up front so the tires will be slightly shorter?

Pro/Cons? Any regrets from those who did go to a 35/40 sidewall combo over the 40/45?

I dont track the car. Its my daily driver. I just want it to look nice. My car is an 04 so my fender lips are already rolled from the factory. I can roll them a little more if needed but im really stuck between sticking with the stock diameter or going a size shorter...

Thanks in advance!!

I haven't changed the sidewall size on my V, but had a colorado with 35 sidewall, only thing I didn't like about them was the ride comfort, I could run over bubblegum and tell you what flavor it was they were so rough!

from my understanding you will want to keep the overall height of the front and rear tires the same to avoid causing issues the the traction control system. If the height is different the computer will read that the tires are spinning at a different rate and the T/C will kick in.

I would just stick with the 275/40 on the back. The difference in height between 245/45 and 275/40 is 0.02 inches or 0.08% difference in overall diameter. that is about as close as you can get.

I was looking at going with 265/40s all around when I bought new tires for the new car. Anyone have any experience with that?

I just ordered 4 255/40's. From a review by car and driver they were great in the rain, which is my primary concern for a daily driver in Houston. Shipped they are under 700, and again from car and driver they were on par or better than PS2's on dry pavement.

I have 275/35's BFG's DR's on spare rims for the strip, so I didn't stagger the tire sizes. The 275/35 will set off the traction control with the 245/45's on front, just FYI.

like already mentioned 35 series tires run noticeably rough i have 265/35 in the front and hate it, can't wait to remove them. I have ran 265/40 all around also and i loved it.

I am currently running 275/40 in the rear and the only thing i can tell you is to do it, it is perfect in my opinion, makes the car look tough. I have gotten alot of positive comments about the rear tires.

275mm is max on 8.5" rim.
Do your sizing here:

http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

Do your research here:

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...mparison_tests

Buy your Hankooks here:

www.onlinetires.com
245/45/18=$143/each
275/40/18=$156/each, do not go 275/35/18 as 4.17% diameter difference

You can also get Nitto Invos at same site:
245/45/18=$125/each
275/40/18=$174/each

+1 for the 245/45/18 & 275/40/18

I would have gone full Invo's but they didnt have em and i needed tires that day, so i did Eagle F1's in the front & Invos in the rear.

Thanks for all the help guys! I realize going to a 275/35 would cause problems if i keep the 245/45 up front but a 245/40 has almost the same overall diameter as a 275/35 which shouldnt cause T/C problems. This is the setup whistler151 says he has on his car and loves it.

I dont want to go any more narrow than a 275 out back because i like the fatty look. 245 in the front is just fine for me. My only issue is deciding on the 275/40, 245/45 combo or the 275/35, 245/40 combo.

Overall diameter will match very close front and rear and wont cause T/C issues. I just didnt know which would look better on the car being lowered or if there was much of a difference in ride quality and performance between the taller and shorter sizes...

Speaking of tires, if anyone has a Goodyear Eagle GS-2 245/45/18 with some decent tread left (40-50%) they want to get rid of, let me know. I bumped a curb and it took a nice chunk of one my rears. Looking to buy some time so I can replace the whole set at the same time.

Also hit the rim so if anyone has a rim in excellent condition, I may be interested in that as well.

Can a 275/40 be put all around? Can you clear them up front?

Using the stock wheels of course....

Thanks in advance,

LAW

I think we would all guess rubbing would be an issue. I run a 255/35/19 upfront so I am no help.
Hopefully someone that has 'acutally' tried it will jump in,,,

I have been trying out different tires here lately and right now I have 245/45 up front and 255/40 out back and I have to turn traction control off when I'm over 80mph or when accellerating kinda quick. I'll throw a matching set of 275s on it later this summer.

well that makes a lot of sense....I have 245/45's all around and my T/S sets off randomly, could this be a tire size issue? if so what do I need? gonna be in need for some rears pretty soon anyway.....gonna go ahead and do 4 @ once and keep the best 2 to play on

I had 245/45 run flats all the way around and and it was fine. I put 245/45 non runflats on the front to feel the difference and it was fine. When I put the 255/40s on the back to see if I'd like those, was when the traction control became unhappy..haha. If yours is going off randomly with 4 of the same tires, you might have other issues.

yep about what I figured....I can run it in Competitive Mode and it never engages ....except when it needs to, i.e. rear end breaking loose or wet road conditions, on normal on a straight flat road it'll scare the **** out of you when it compensates for your doing nothing wrong...IDK....I just drive competitively for now....ahahaaa

I run the 245-45-18 up front and 275-40-18 out back and haven't had any issues with traction control.
