Default Ignition switch?

so i turn my ignition forward, all the lights look fine, no security light lit. i try to start it and it doesnt turn over or anything. lights stay lit, still has power. just doesnt do anything. i assumed it was the key because it starts fine sometimes. sometimes i take the key out and mess with the chip thing and try again and it starts right up. if all else, i just keep trying to start it and eventually it will start. i got a new key from the stealership today, didnt work. so it should be my ignition switch?
also, most importantly, the dealership wants 130 for the ignition switch. autozone/napa 40 bucks.
oreilly/advanced auto 80-90 bucks.. whats the difference? do they not come with the resistor keys? thats a insane price difference to just be competative pricing lol

This might sound stupid but make sure your battery leads are on tight. I had a similar problem where I got power to everything but it would not turn over because the ground lead on the battery was a little loose. Not enough current flow for the starter to work.

yea the battery terminals are tight.. i actually just put a new optima in it cuz im trying to dress up the engine bay a lil. it did this with new and the old battery. i can hold the key forward to where it should be turning the motor and all the lights stay lit. no power drain or loss of power at all.
the security light only comes on when i turn the key forward with all the other dash lights, then it goes away with all the other lights. is does not come on after the car has been started either, no

I actually meant when you turn the key forward. When you try to start it do you hear clicking from under the hood or anything like the starter solenoid when it doesn't start?

If you have an M6 (looking at your signature) then I'd try pumping the clutch while starting the car. Recently I had a very similar starting problem, and it turned out to be the clutch start switch. Easy fix, $6.00 part.

If the starter doesn't click at all it can either be the clutch switch or the ignition switch not the key the actual switch further down the column.

update.. ive been dealing with it not working every once in a while but this morning it wont start at all. i was wrong about the starter solenoid. it is clicking. i didnt hear it before because the gauges make a tapping noise at the same time as the solenoid. guess that changes things ALOT lol
