Gear Ratio for Best 1/4 Mile Time
Im getting ready to cam my car and am also going to be swapping out my rearend gears, would 3:73's or 3:90's get me a better 1/4 mile time? most likely i will be running street tires so i dont know if the 3:90's will hurt me by causing more of a traction issue.

Either way there won't be a huge difference. I went with 3.73s in my personal car and they worked great. However, either way on street tires you will probably run into traction issues. The 3.73 will probably be a little more friendly with a converter and possibly some nitrous down the road.

For the absolute best ET & MPH, when you pick a gear ratio you have to balance traction concerns at launch with selecting a gear that will put you as close as possibile to your peak horsepower rpm as you cross the traps.
There are many on-line gear calculators that will help you do the math on rpm vs. tire height vs. trans & diff gearing; you can solve for any one variable so long as you know the others. All you really need to find out that is specific to your car is peak HP rpm from a dyno sheet....tire height, trans & diff gearing are easy to gather...
