What would cause a T-56 to lose 5th, 6th, and reverse?

Default What would cause a T-56 to lose 5th, 6th, and reverse?

On my way to work I lost all three gears just out of the blue. I have noticed the 2nd and 3rd gear syncros getting a little noisy but never anything with those gears. Any idea? I had a shop do some work on it a few months back and think they may have not done something right. Thanks.

Countershaft Extention Splines got ripped off more than likely..

I think there is more to the story then just "out of the blue"..

You ripped the lugs off the back of the cluster gear in the unit.

Well it makes about 500 at the tires so..... maybe a little more lol but at the time I just shifted into 5th after a hard pull through 4th and I was out of it when I went to 5th. It was just strange how it was there and then gone. Didn't hear anything at all.

You have lost Reverse completely?

I thought that won't kill Reverse though..just 5 & 6 will go out if that little Cluster Gear is tore up.

I'm thinkin you killed the Lugs on the Countershaft Extention.

Well the trans will most likely come out and go to the shop on Monday so I will let you guys know.

What are you guys referring to as the Cluster Gear..the same piece that I'm talking about or the little one that is on the Mainshaft for the 5&6?

I meant to say Countershaft in mine..I had the spline direction backwards till I looked at a pic..

Well the trans is out. Only took about 2-2 1/2 hours from sliding the jack under the car to pulling the trans out. Will be going to the shop tomorrow to find out what I broke!!!
