Go origional GM's. I learned the hard way. They are very strong and very quiet. The Motives are garbage....

i've heard that richmond gears whine a lot. i've had superior 4.10's for over a year now and they're still quiet. they were cheaper than the gm gears to.

Agreed, don't go with Richmond for the street. They have a high nickle content and tend to be noisier than GM. I have Richmond in mine and I set them up at first with the backlash at .005 and they were whining big time. I had to go back in a change the backlash to .010. It helped alot, but they still have a noticeable whine. I used to use Zoom gears which I believe was bought out by Richmond, but I never remember their gears being noisy. I guess they have changed the composition and/or process.

You will need the gears and peferably an install kit which has shims, bearings, and grease for checking the pattern. Also you will need a dial indicator with a magnetic base for checking backlash. If you don't have a pinion depth checker, & most people don't, you will need to check the thickness of your original pinion shim. That will be your starting size pinion shim for the setup, which works most of the time.

Check this site for some additional help: www.drivetrain.com/ringpinioninstal.html

Good luck!

I had good luck with my 4.10 strange hears in my old M6 car. They were quiet, too.
