I bought a Belkin USB adapter from Comp USA for $39.99 and it worked great with efi live, but when we tried to use it with ls1 edit, it was taking an extremely long time to connect to the vehicle. I need to find a solution.

Belkin for me as well... But it does take a while to connect...

I just bought a used Dell with a serial port and it's much faster.

I have a Sony Vaio and it doesn't have a serial port either. I'm using a "Keyspan" serial to USB adapter that I got at Comp USA for $40 or so. Works fine and connects right away.

Another vote for Keyspan. I use their 4-port adapter and log several serial devices at once.
