Does Anyone Have a '01 LS1 or Any Ls1 That Doesnt Have Oil or Piston Slap Problems??
i just bought a "01 c5(LS1) 9.5 miles on it. i only have it 2 days now and it doesnt seem to have any piston slap, it smokes but it appears to be white and go away after a few miles of driving. my question is...does anyone have a LS1 paticularly a '01 that doesnt have oil consumption or piston slap problems?? even if you dont have a "01 or a LS1 and wanna comment on this thats cool too. Thanks -Ja

I haven't noticed any oil consumption problems with my ls1 as of yet. It's an 00 WS6 with 29k miles.

first motor had fairly bad piston slap that would go away on warm-up
it was recently replaced with a 2002 motor under warranty due to the #1 cylinder trashing itself. New motor has moderate piston slap that is gone by 190'

Less than 1 quart in 3000 miles for me and, no piston slap, just valvetrain noise on start up(since cam and springs).

My 2001 LS1 uses oil like there is no tomorrow! No piston slap, though. All stock internals, no headers, just the way I drive I guess.

My 03' has no oil useage, no slap. Same since heads and cam. My PCV mod has picked up 1/4 inch in filter bowl in 1500 miles.

.585"/.585" lift, 276*/276* seat duration, 220*/220* at .050" on a 112* LSA with 2* advance built in. Heres where it gets a little complicated, these lobes are magnum small block chevy hydraulic lobe designs, they are specced with 1.5 rocker ratio. LS1 is 1.7 ratio and that impacts specs like this:seat duration is unchanged but .050" is increased to 224* and much fatter duration under the curve, this higher ratio really speeds up valve accelleration making it more competitive with modern LS1 designs.
