Shifter Gasket Material
Hello. I want to make a shifter gasket for my T56. I went on ebay to check out gasket material. So far I found nitrile rubber, cork, nitrile/cork. What material and thickness do you guys think I should get?

Ill throw my solution in there..
In ACE hardware, and Im sure home depot/lowes, you can get some red rubber squares. i believe its for a toilet or sink application. The two squares are different thicknesses. I used one of these, along with a thin spread of RTV. Shifter is dead quiet, leak free, and it was still cheap. Just gotta cut it, punch some holes in it, and trim it up where necessary.

Here's a link to home depot. Not EXACTLY what I got, but it should get the job done.

Thats a scary picture there Goldmember /\.
Use black RTV or get some thin cork gasket material from any parts house and cut it to fit. I prefer the cork gasket because I think it reduces some of the noisy vibes I get from the aftermarket shifter since it is not dampened like the stocker.

Took me a second..haha. Wow, that is quite an awkward picture! At least its a POWER TOWER haha.
I gave up on cork gaskets when I sold my 67 Bonneville. I hate cork. The rubber peels right off, no fuss, no mess. Not saying the cork would be hard to get off in all instances. Just never had luck with cork products.
One thing if you use RTV...just make sure you let it set up a little before joining the parts. If you do, that will help with noise. If you just slap it together right away, you squeeze almost all the RTV out from between the shifter and trans. Doesnt do much for noise..or leaks for that matter.
