Default best oil pump replacement? oil problems possibly..

When i first got my 02 T/a it would idle slightly above 40psi and near 60 during normal driving. Now a couple years later, 80,XXX miles (the gauge, which i know are known to not be accurate) reads below 40 at idle and slightly above 40 at best when driving.
My questions are..
1.) is this the oil pressure sending unit going bad? the pump going bad, or both possibly?
2.) what's the best oil pump replacement, OEM one or something else? (such as Slp's {currently it only has exhaust work done to it put i'm planning more down the road})

BUMP... anyone guys? Original OEM pump or something like an ls6 pump. Plan on a cam swap eventually. I'm trying to replace the pump and be done with it.
