Default Formulas with 28x10.5 tires pics please

Just wondering if you needed to mod your wheel wells for 28x10.5 slicks. I know Camaros and TAs need some trimming but what about a Formula???? I had 27x10.5 QTPs and they fit just fine with room to spare, now im putting on 28x11.5 QTPs and they are about the same size as a MT 28x10.5 ET DRAG, maybe even a tiny bit smaller.

Get yourself a big hammer and start pounding away, you'll need to cut your bumpstops out and those et drags will rub the back bumper as well.

I had 28x11.50R15 ET Streets on my 15x10 6.5" BS wheels and they fit fine. My fenders were already rolled but they cleared.

If you are running them on a 8" wheel I think you will be ok. Their tread width is something like 8.6", which is way smaller than a 28x10.5 ET Drag on a 10" wheel.

EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't know those QTP's ran soo much wider!

Mikie, you still plan on running those on a 8" wheel?

The 28x11.5 QTPs are thinner than 28X10.5 ET Drags. I put them side by side both new. They were about 1/4" wider which I thought was strange considering the 11.5 vs 10.5 rating. And yes they are on a 8" rim with 5.5 bs.

I should quit being lazy and just go put them on and find out. They are already mounted and 2ft from the car. lol

Depending on the actual tire you run, and rims you run, you might have to do all or any of the following:

-trim the bump stops
-hammer in the inner fender area that would up high and towards the front... let's call it 2 oclock on the passenger side, and 10 oclock on the driver's side.
-might have to deburr/hammer in front lowest sheetmeal
-hammer in/cut inner fender around the rear lower control arm mount
-might have to do a little bit of cutting of the rear bumper inside lip.

Here's mine, same body as yours. I agree with PSJ, but with an 8" rim I doubt you'll need much clearancing. Just watch and leave some room for tire growth.

Thanks, I took off my 28x12.5 ET Streets last yr and swapped to the radials. Going to give those a try this spring. I'm to the point where I need to start on another engine.

Yours is looking good!

Thanks! So far its gone mid 11s @119.44 NA with way more in it, since then Ive changed out the cam added alot of suspension, changing to 28s and added a Nitrous Outlet system with all the goodies. Hope to put it in the 9s this yr.
Im just trying to see what will be involved with swapping to the 28s before I mount them on the car. So basic rule is I need about 1" all around for growing clearance on the big end?

race car!!!! you need about 3/4-1 inch around for tire growth, im running 28-10.5 on a 8inch and mine rub on the bottom of the rear bumper cover on the big end but i only have about 1/2 clearance.
